If there is a celebration, there is usually a bottle of champagne nearby, ready to be opened and sprayed everywhere. While spraying champagne can be a fun way to mark a special moment, the excitement only lasts for a short time, and it often results in wasting good — and sometimes expensive — sparkling wine.
That’s why Stason Strong and Brad Hall created Bubbly Blast: a champagne gun that attaches to a bottle of bubbly and turns it into a champagne squirt gun. By spraying thin streams of champagne, the Bubbly Blaster makes the experience more fun, controlled, and less messy.
Before appearing on “Shark Tank” in Season 12, Episode 10, Strong was celebrating with his friends and family, enjoying a bottle of champagne when he felt the disappointment of running out just as the fun was beginning.
Wondering how to extend the fun of spraying champagne, Strong used his mechanical engineering skills to design a champagne gun. What started as a personal project soon got the attention of his friends at SpaceX, and together they created a more advanced 3D-printed version of the gun.
As the invention gained popularity, Strong partnered with MBA graduate Hall to turn it into a business, and Bubbly Blaster was created.
The Founders
Brad Hall and Stason Strong are from Los Angeles, California. Not much is known about Stason’s education, but Brad has an MBA from West Texas A&M University and a doctorate in pharmacy from Auburn University.
Stason started his career as a senior creative director at Yahoo! After three years at the company, he started two new businesses, co-founding GreenFunder and Soshi.com.
After college, Brad worked as a pharmacist at companies like Rite Aid and Infusion Partners. He was then hired as a branch manager at BioScrip, Inc., where he was later promoted to VP of sales and operations.
Founding Bubbly Blaster
Strong came up with the idea for the product after going to a party where they popped champagne. The fun ended too quickly, and he thought of a way to make it last longer. He designed a champagne spray gun to fix this issue.
He showed it to some friends working at SpaceX. They suggested making a 3D-printed model to give it a more professional look. After receiving more positive feedback, Stason decided to move forward with the business.
The Los Angeles native teamed up with Brad Hall, and together, they raised $120,000 to launch Bubbly Blaster in 2017. About a year later, the business earned $560,000 in sales through Amazon and its website.
What happened to Bubbly Blaster on Shark Tank?
Bubbly Blaster had everything the Sharks usually look for in a new business. Strong and Hall had funded the company themselves with a $120,000 investment, which made the business free of debt and outside investors.
They had earned $560,000 in sales from Amazon and Bubbly Blaster’s website since launching the year before. With $18.50 in costs for a gadget that sold for $99.99, and the potential to lower the cost to $10 with higher production, their strong profit margin impressed the Sharks.
To top it off, the Sharks thought that the entrepreneurs’ request for a $120,000 investment in exchange for 20% equity, giving the business a $600,000 valuation, was reasonable. The Bubbly Blaster seemed set to leave “Shark Tank” with a big investment and a Shark partner.
However, Bubbly Blaster did even better: It convinced not just one, but two major Sharks. Strong and Hall agreed to a deal with Mark Cuban and Alex Rodriguez, who increased their investment to $180,000 for a 30% share in the company.
Bubbly Blaster after Shark Tank
While the entrepreneurs and the Sharks celebrated their successful deal on “Shark Tank” with lots of champagne sprayed from the Bubbly Blaster, it’s unclear if the deal actually happened after the show.
Bubbly Blaster doesn’t appear on either Cuban or Rodriguez’s websites under the list of companies they’ve invested in from “Shark Tank,” which suggests the deal might not have worked out after the show, for reasons that aren’t clear.
Even without the investment, Strong and Hall kept working on their champagne gun after “Shark Tank.” When they appeared on the show, Bubbly Blaster only had its main champagne gun available in five colors, but they have since added more products.
According to their website, Bubbly Blaster now offers several accessories to make spraying champagne even more fun.
They sell rainbow-colored fin attachments for $19.99 that can be added to the Bubbly Blaster to make it look cooler, as well as a video mounting device for $24.98, which allows customers to attach recording devices to the champagne gun and capture their champagne spraying moments.
The website also offers three different colors of snapback caps for $24.99 for those who want to wear Bubbly Blaster gear.
Bubbly Blaster is still in business
When Strong and Hall went on “Shark Tank,” their champagne guns were being sold on Amazon and Bubbly Blaster’s website. While the champagne guns are still available on their website for $99.99 along with other accessories, showing that Bubbly Blaster is still operating, there are hardly any signs of the company anywhere else.
One reason for this could be the strong competition they faced after the show. Even though Bubbly Blaster has trademarks and patents for its champagne-spraying device, a quick search on Amazon shows many imitation champagne guns being sold for much lower prices than Bubbly Blaster’s.
On top of this, Strong and Hall originally entered “Shark Tank” hoping to get an investment to expand their inventory and focus on advertising to increase demand for Bubbly Blaster.
However, if their social media accounts are anything to go by, the entrepreneurs don’t seem to be focusing on advertising as much now. Bubbly Blaster’s Instagram account is quite inactive as of 2024, and the only new posts on its Facebook page appear to be “2 for 1” ads during holidays.
What’s next for Bubbly Blaster?
Aside from the products listed on its website, there isn’t much information about what Bubbly Blaster has been doing or what the future holds for its champagne guns and accessories. On the other hand, the entrepreneurs have moved on to new ventures.
After inventing and selling attachments for a more fun champagne spraying experience, Strong and Hall have shifted their focus to helping people sleep better with a new business: SONU Sleep System.
Called “the world’s first mattress designed for side sleepers” on the company’s Instagram page, SONU Sleep System replaces traditional flat beds with mattresses designed to adjust to each person’s body shape and reduce pressure on certain parts of the body while sleeping.
The mattress has cavities that allow side sleepers to place their hands and shoulders inside, reducing muscle pain and discomfort from sleeping on them.
Strong and Hall seem to have kept the same roles they had at Bubbly Blaster in their new business. Strong is the inventor and co-founder of SONU Sleep, while Hall is the company’s CEO. From the reviews from athletes on the company’s YouTube page, it seems the new business is doing better than their champagne guns at the moment.
