The Age Of Adaline Plot
The story opens in San Francisco, where Adaline Bowman leads a quiet life with a dog toward the end of 2013. She goes to the man Adaline asked to make some fake identification. Adaline thanks the man but is disappointed in him because she believes his skills could be better utilized. She hails a cab to get to her Chinatown residence before starting work. Adaline enters the records room and switches on the projector while she listens to a strange tape. The projector gradually reveals the history of Adaline Bowman, the first child born on New Year’s Eve, 1908. She got married, gave birth to a daughter, and gave her the name Flemming.
Adaline was devastated when her husband perished in a tragic accident in 1937 while they were building the Golden Gate Bridge. Adaline, however, had a mishap of her own ten months later and came dangerously close to passing out in the lake when she was struck by a lightning bolt that discharged half a billion volts of electricity. Adaline’s heart began to beat again after exactly two minutes, and she instantly became immortal. Since then, Adaline has continued to live under 29, running from one location to another, assuming false identities, and picking up new languages. She has since been living on the run while secretly getting to know his daughter, who continues to age normally. Adaline encounters Ellis Jones in the elevator on New Year’s Eve 2014 as she exits a party.

Name Change
Adaline introduces herself as Jennifer, and Ellis is friendly and flirtatious. When the guy asks for her address, Adaline abruptly ends the conversation. But she runs into Ellis again, and they start to get along. Adaline agrees to go on a date with Ellis, but their burgeoning romance takes a hit after Adaline’s dog dies. After some time, Adaline develops compassion for Ellis and consents to accompany him to meet his parents. She meets Ellis’ father, William, who immediately recognizes her and calls her Adaline, but she is in for a surprise. Adaline struggles to conceal her true identity as the memories flood back to her.
Things get heated up in Ellis’ home as William talks about his past relationships with Adaline and recalls how they were “very close.” The memory hurts his forty-year marriage, but Adaline significantly impacted William’s life. Williams tells his family about how Adaline inspired her to finish his degree. His greatest accomplishment was finding a comet that was supposed to pass by Earth in 1981 but did not. Adaline is shocked to learn that William named his comet “Della C 1981” after her even though he had told his family he had named it after Della, a fictitious aunt of Ellis. We learn more about William’s prior relationship with Adaline, but Ellis’s sister’s character is still underdeveloped.
Getting Recognized
Young William traveled to England, where he ran into Adaline outside London. Adaline and William spent a week fixing her car. Since William was one of the few people who knew Adaline’s real name, Adaline also reciprocated the romance. She also agreed to have her face covered for a photo with William. William is now examining the image and finds the resemblance to be uncanny. William unintentionally notices Adaline’s scar that he stitched at the same time. William sees that although mother and daughter may look alike, they can never have the same fault as Adaline quickly retreats. Following the epiphany, William follows Adaline, which causes an argument. Adaline apologizes to William and acknowledges the truth.
After the discovery, Adaline departs as she always does. When Ellis opens her letter, he is astounded, but William urges his son to follow Adaline. Adaline, meanwhile, has her second auto accident ever. Adaline is put in a situation similar to the one that gave her immortality, but she survives. Ellis is to blame for Adaline’s hospitalization. She tells Ellis about her intriguing case while lying in the hospital bed. She introduces herself as Adaline’s grandmother when Flemming first meets Adaline. Adaline, however, assures her that Ellis is aware of the reality. Adaline and Ellis eventually go on a date. With Flemming’s blessing, we assume that Ellis and Adaline decide to continue spending time together.
Is The Age Of Adaline Based On A True Story?
Adaline Bowman is a fictional character penned by Salvador Paskowitz and J. Mills Goodlow. Any real-life people don’t inspire her story. No woman can live that long, look that young, and change many identities without attracting attention. A lightning strike can’t make you younger or stop your aging. Moreover, a lighting strike will cook you extra crispy! While the story is fantastic and sounds beautiful, it’s just the kind of work of fiction we could expect from the magic of Hollywood.
