Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai Episode 1? If you loved the cute and adorable characters of the original retro “Gremlins” and liked every little adventure of it, then this upcoming prequel of the show with the name “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.”
Although this new upcoming series is aimed to provide us with the original story of Gizmo and the rest of the friends, the story also tells us a standalone tale that captures the whole essence of the show. The series not only have eye-catching animation but also some talented voice actors of the industry that expand the world of Gremlins along with his unique backstory.
The story is set in the Valley of Jade, which is the home to the happy mogwai. Later in the story, we see that Gizmo is brave and, at the same time, the adorable protagonist of the story; however, when he saves his village from danger, he gets separated from the rest of his community.
Later in the story, we see that in the 1920s, a young boy named Sam Wing from Shanghai, whose adventure gets intertwines with Gimzo’s. On the other hand, Sam’s grandfather, who was aware of all the dangers mogwai can bring, encourages Sam to return Gizmo to the Valley of Jade in order to protect the city from an evil sorcerer named Riley Greene

With this, we see that Sam, along with his resourceful companion Elle sets on a journey to shift Gizmo safely back to his hometown; however, on their way, they encounter many supernatural forces and mystical elements. In addition to that, we also see that Gremlin not only brings chaos into the path but also humor to the story as well.
This prequel of the original series provides all the explanations of the rules and origin of mogwai; however, most of the time relies very much on magical elements, which sometimes feels like is not match the whole vibe of the story.
However, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is a refreshing departure from all the exoticism that was present in past movies and shows. While avoiding fetishization of their otherness, the characters of this series have a way deeper understanding of mogwai within their culture and mythical tradition.
Along with the action and drama, the show also depicts that it is not just Western Society that is lacking the readiness of mogwai, but also highlights the general inability of humanity to handle their purity responsibly.
Along with the Western tradition and landmarks, we also see the infusion of Chinese culture in the story, which is a significant addition because it was the depiction of 1920s Shanghai and the incorporation of traditional Chinese elements such as Jiangshi.
Not only that, the series tries its best to avoid unnecessary pop culture references; however, instead of that, it focuses on aspirational character development and clever dialogues. The presence of Zach Galligan, yes, the star of the original movies, along with the vocal cameos, serve as a seal of approval while at the same time allowing the rest of the cast members to shine.
