Ginka & Glüna is the latest heartwarming story presented to the viewers by Weekly Shōnen Jump, and the fans are loving it so far. The manga has certainly taken over the hearts of manga readers everywhere with its intriguing and fresh concept. Although it is relatively new, as it debuted in September 2022, it has already garnered a lot of positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and even developed an active fanbase among the readers. The reason for all of this is the sheer likeability of the titular characters of the manga.
The interaction and the antics between the titular characters are really heartwarming and funny to read. Although it could be considered a part of the comedy genre, it sometimes touches on some serious tones. The manga basically follows the adventures of a snowman named Ginka and a magician girl named Glüna as they leave the mountains for the city.
The manga is written and illustrated by Shinpei Watanabe, and it has been in circulation in the Weekly Shōnen Jump since September 12, 2022. As the 5th chapter of the manga is about to release soon, we’ve gathered some interesting information about the manga and the upcoming chapter for you.
What is Ginka & Glüna About?
When Glüna was a little girl, her mother died due to an epidemic, and she had never known her father. Hence, she lived all alone in the snowy mountain where food was really scarce. The animals often looked sadly at the little Glüna, who struggled to find food every day all by herself. But she was more or less happy with her life and used to read a book about magic every night, dreaming of being a magician one day.
It was then she was met with a snowman who could talk and walk like a human being. The snowman told her that his name was Ginka and thanked her for giving him a scarf earlier. Although Glüna found Ginka to be a nuisance at first, she began to accept him as a friend.
But then she made a shocking discovery: Ginka could do real magic! Astonishingly well too. Although she had been reading about magicians for so long, she had never seen one until Ginka, that is. Now that she realizes Ginka’s powers, she requests him to teach her. And so he accepted her request.
Five years later, under the magic tutelage of Ginka, Glüna has become a powerful magician who could do wonders. Now that she had learned everything Ginka had to teach, she decided it was time to get out of these snowy mountains. But Ginka refused to come with her.
Glüna realized that as soon as Ginka left these mountains, he’ll lose all his magic powers and would melt away. But Glüna finds a solution for this and insists Ginka come with her. Proud of Glüna’s growth as a magician, Ginka decides to leave the mountains with her.
Hence the snowman and magic girl’s adventure begins!
Previously on Ginka & Glüna
In the last chapter, we learned that the duo is still out wandering around the Capital city, and now they’ve got a new companion with them- Beretta. She’s a magician like Glüna, but she is supposedly not really good at it and often laments about her incompetency.
In the previous chapters, we saw the trio taking on all the magic jobs around the city and completing even the difficult ones successfully. Seeing their success, the Magic Union sought their help in completing a Seven Star mission. Although Ginka & Glüna are as carefree as usual, Beretta knew the difficulties of a seven-star mission and even regretted when they took the job.
As the trio went down the mine called the Labyrinth of Tunnels to look for the cause of the missing miners, they were led through really elaborate tunnels that had been there since Verokian Era. As they arrive at the bottom of the mine, they are met with a new face- Anemone.
Beretta and Anemone actually know each other, and Anemone continues to bully Beretta. While this happened, a rock crab attacked the group, and although Anemone proudly defeated it, more and more rock crabs came out hearing the previous rock crab’s cry.
In this situation, Anemone truly thought they were going to die, but two persons in the group were still smiling. Ginka & Glüna jumped to the front to attack the incoming rock crab horde, but Ginka told Glüna to stand back so that he could kill them all without destroying their hide that could be sold later.
As the chapter reaches its end, we see Anemone dumbfoundedly looking at Ginka as he destroys all the rock crabs without a wand or an incantation. The chapter ends with a foreboding feeling as Ginka tells the rest that this isn’t the end of their mission and the worst is yet to come…
