Chapter 278 left off with the cliffhanger of Chapter 277 with Miko’s ‘confession,’ which surprised Ishigami. We saw him agreeing to her request to be vice president, and soon enough, we witnessed a time skip of six months. Things changed as a new student council was formed, but oddly enough, nothing changed between Miko and Ishigami. We are getting to see the daily lives of those who stayed back in Japan and the twisted fate of the love story they are going through as Shirogane is studying abroad.
Miko has formulated a strategy to revolutionalize her council. She has a more forward-looking vision with the use of modern technology. With Mitama Tono as the secretary- she is deeply admired by the students, who are more than glad to welcome this change to the council. Other positions in the council after the time skip are held by Kogane Kegane as the new financial auditor, Yu Ishigami as the Vice President, and Taikoku Takano as the treasurer.
What stays constant after such a long six months of time is the miscommunication between Miko and Ishigami. While he fails to voice out his intentions of wanting to stay with her- Miko gives him extra workload so he won’t leave and would be forced to spend time with her, while Ishigami is frustrated and mad at the work he is asked to do since he believes concentrating on it isn’t letting him spend time with Miko.
Ishigami patiently sits around and hears the first years’ gossip about him and Miko. Obviously, it is made clear how both Miko and Ishigami are smart and maintain their grades and ranks in the class as well as manage so much workload. They are shipped by the bubbling students, which makes Ishigami overthink what would happen if he asked out Miko and how that would lead to the disintegration of the student council.
While Ishigami was overthinking that things could only work out if Miko asked him out, Miko, on the other hand, was thinking how she would definitely say yes without thinking twice if Ishigami was more aggressive with his moves.
She believed that “she had dropped enough hints” to him and that even if it was the modern era- he should make his move, or she would be the weak one ending up in defeat. We see the chapter ends as Kaguya mentions how these two would need more time to finally write their love story without wasting any more intellect on plots to make the other one confess first.
Their story, which began with the event, is repeated only this time Kaguya presents them with movie tickets, and we see a wholesome attempt to perhaps see a change in their story.
