Shadow Detective Season 2 Episode 1: Release Date, Preview & Streaming Guide

South Korean thriller drama Shadow Detective is back with its most awaited season 2. Season 1 of Disney plus K-drama Shadow Detective was released on 26 October 2022 and concluded with the release of the 8th final episode on 16 November 2022. However, the ending of Shadow Detective was left open which made it sceptical for Season 2. 

Season 2 will also be Disney plus originals and as for episodes, it will also conclude with the 8th final episode. The drama’s original title in Korean is 형사록 시즌2 [Hyeongsarok Sijeun 2] which also means Veteran Detective Season 2.  

Shadow Detective directed by Han Dong Hwa will have the same cast as season 1. However, a few new cast is also added introducing some more intense characters. The main cast includes Lee Sung Min as Kim Taek Rok, Lee Hak Joo as Son Kyung Chan and Kyung Soo Jin as Lee Sung Ah same as in Season 1. Kim Shin Rok as Yeon Joo Hyeon and Jung Jin Young as Ki Do Hyung are the new cast for Season 2.

What happened in Season 1 of Shadow Detective?

Previously, in Shadow Detective a Veteran Detective Kim Taek Rok who is in his mid-50s is about to resign from his job. He was never a competent detective and himself responsible for all the wrongs going around him. He says being a detective is very lonely. But this loneliness didn’t last long. His new team colleagues Lee Sung A, Son Kyung Chan and Kook Jin Han were aware of his isolation and tried to comfort him during his last time on this job. He has a very peculiar relationship with the detective Kook Jin Han. Both would be like enemies but later become friends. 

One day out of the blue Kim Taek Rok receives a phone call and the caller claimed to be his old friend. He ignored it as a prank call at first but the calls were coming continuously. The Rok had no choice but to listen to the caller. The caller never revealed his true identity neither the phone number accessible. The caller tells him that he killed Kim Taek Rok’s colleague Woo Hyun Seok and suggests he look into Kim Taek Rok’s past to find things he did wrong. And from here Tae Rok gets tangled in past murders, leading murder of his two detective friends Bae Young Doo and Hyun Suk. In the end, he realised he was framed by the caller in this all murders. 

It costs Hyun Suk his life to reveal the identity of the murderer to Tae Rok. The murderer was none other than Kook Jin Han. He was fooling him all this time. On the other hand, the one who ordered Jin Han for doing this Seo Gwang Su [Tae Rok’s old friend] surrenders his all crimes to the police and gives evidence against Jin Han. 

However, the evidence given by Gwang Su wasn’t enough so he was released. But after a while, he receives a video on SMS from Tae Rok. In the video, he was killing Hyun Suk. It was retrieved by Tae Rok from Hyun Suk’s burner phone, he was now convinced the anonymous friend calling him is none other than Jin than himself. 

Jin was on his way to Tae Rok when he gets from Chairman Jang. He curses at Jang and says either he will die or he will kill Tae Rok tonight. On reaching, he was about to shoot Tae Rok but then Tae Rok persuades him. He says he still has time to change things and return to the family. He advises Jin Han to not become a detective in his next life.

Jin Han was about to cry when someone shoots him from behind. His last words to Tae Rok were let’s be friends in the next life. To utter surprise Tae Rok receives a call and it was from the anonymous “Friend”. Season 1 ended with the death of Jin Han and a call from a friend, which left lots of questions in the viewer’s mind.

Shadow Detective Season 2 is set to release its new episodes every Wednesday. The series will have a total of 8 episodes and 1st episode is set to release on Wednesday 5th July 2023 at 10:00 PM [KST]. However, the time of release is different for all regions. Shadow Detective Season 2 will be officially broadcasted on Disney Plus Korea. International viewers can also stream Shadow Detective Season 2 on Disney Plus with English Subtitles. However, it is accessible to a few regions only. Global fans can watch the new episode of the series on Hulu also with English subtitles. 

However, Season 1 of Shadow Detective is also available on both online platforms.
