The upcoming rom-com anime Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha (The Dreaming Man is a Realist) opening and ending theme song artists revealed through the anime’s official Twitter account. The opening song, “Paraglider,” will be performed by Kaori Ishihara, and the ending song, “Yume wa Mijikashi Koiseyo Otome” (DREAMS are fleeting, fall in LOVE, girls!), will be performed by Akiho Suzumoto.
Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha anime was announced on November 18, 2022. Set against a backdrop of relatable teenage experiences, the anime captures the essence of insecurities and fears that often accompany young love blossoming.
The Dreaming Man is a Realist who follows a boy who likes a girl but doesn’t think he’s good enough for her; naturally, he avoids her. This begins the start of an emotional yet funny rollercoaster of the two lead characters.

The Dreaming Man is a Realist Debuts July
Kazuomi Koga takes the director’s role for this anime adaptation Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ, who are also producing Reborn as a Vending Machine; I Now Wander the Dungeon. Michiko Yokote will be writing the scripts accompanied by Masaru Koseki, who will be in charge of character designs. Hajime Takakuwa is the sound director, and Pony Canyon is composing the music. The opening and ending theme songs will be released on August 2.
Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha began as a light novel series written by Okemaru and illustrated by Saba Mizore in December 2018. It was initially serialized on the user-generated novel publishing platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō and had been growing in popularity since.
In June 2020, Hobby Japan gained a license and published it in their HJ Bunko imprint. The light novel then got a manga adaptation illustrated by Popuri Yoshikita, and it debuted in March 2021 on Kadokawa Shoten’s Shōnen Ace Plus website.
The Plot
Lovestruck Wataru Sajou is head over heels for his beautiful classmate, Aika Natsukawa. Dreaming of their mutual love, he approaches her, determined to get what he wants. However, a wave of self-doubt washes over him, and he starts thinking, “Am I really good enough to be with someone as amazing as her.” Suddenly, he decides to keep his distance, leaving Aika dumbfounded.

The sudden change in Wataru’s behavior leaves her questioning their once budding connection, leading her to wonder if his feelings have turned into a dislike. Unknown to each other, their intentions and emotions become entangled in a world of misunderstandings. They both think their love is one-sided and unrequited; this is how a rollercoaster of a rom-com begins!
The Characters
Wataru Sajou, voiced by Naoya Miyase, is the male lead of The Dreaming Man is a Realist. He is in love with Aika but distances himself from her as he thinks their love story will never happen. Aika Natsukawa, voiced by Akiho Suzumoto, is the female lead of the series. She is left unaware and confused by her emotions when Wataru avoids her.
Kei Ashida is Aika’s best friend and is a member of the volleyball club. She is voiced by Yumiri Hanamori. Kaede Sajō is Wataru’s older sister and is voiced by Mikako Komatsu. Rin Shinomiya, voiced by Kaori Ishihara, is Kaede’s best friend. To conclude the cast, Mina Ichinose (voice actor unknown) is Wataru’s classmate and colleague at his part-time job.
Worth a Watch?
Most fan complaints pertain to the idea of the female main character. Some called her a “narcissist” when she couldn’t figure out Wataru’s feelings for her and then got mad at him for distancing himself.
Her treatment of the MC is described as demeaning and lacking genuine interest, which makes it difficult for readers to sympathize with her. Will they ever figure it out? Will they finally realize their love is mutual? Well, you’ll have to stick around till July to find out!
