The psychological spy drama Spy Classroom is back with its Season 2, and fans couldn’t be happier. The anime somewhat resembles Assassination Classroom and is filled with a diverse cast of eccentric and unique characters.
The ragtag team going from nothing to the top is quite satisfying and the slow unraveling of Klaus’ complex personality makes the viewers anticipate for more. The dynamics between the members of the team Lamplight and their leader as well as mentor Klaus is emotional and hilarious at the same time.
Spy Classroom has been adapted from a light novel of the same name that was written by Takemachi, and it has collected 9 volumes since its release in 2020. The anime is well animated and the characters are well-rounded with depth to them.
The main protagonist of this series, Lily, is an enigma and an open book at the same time, making the series even more entertaining. Her relationship and dynamics with Klaus continuously changes, turning from suspicion in the beginning to admiration and respect as time passed.
Spy Classroom is set in a world where humanity has realized that the weapons are far too deadly and advanced after a great war. 10 years have passed since the war ended and spies are considered to be greatest and indispensable assets to the military for any nation.
One such spy is Klaus, a gifted young man considered to be the best spy in the world. The spy team Inferno is wiped out by the enemies during their mission, and its sole survivor, Klaus, decides to put a team together that will achieve impossible heights.
Klaus recruits eight girls from the spy academy – Lily, Grete, Sybilla, Monika, Thea, Sara, Anette, and Erna. Unfortunately, there is one catch – all eight are washouts from the academy, the spies at the bottom of the barrel.
The team instantly gets suspicious and question Klaus’ motives, especially since Klaus is terrible at communicating. They all come to the conclusion that they have been selected as the sacrificial pawns for a deadly mission, and Lily even tries to isolate and kill Klaus since she has no desire to die like that.
Klaus tells Lily that all of them are a team, not sacrifices and Klaus is here to teach them so that they can become unparalleled spies. After that, the team of girls gets closer to Klaus, and they all become true companions, determined to complete their Impossible Missions that are deemed hopeless by others.
In the last season, the mission to capture Corpse was successful, and the team held a long overdue celebration. However, not everything is perfect and we see Monika holding a gun to Thea’s head, asking if she is a traitor.
