Masakuni Igarashi, known for the Senryū Girl manga, is releasing a brand new manga titled “Mayonaka Heart Tune (Heart Tune in Midnight – Finding the Girl Behind the Voice)” in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine’s upcoming 42nd issue on September 20.
This upcoming series will kick off with a vibrant color page and a special commemorative acrylic stand. Mayonaka Heart Tune comes from the mangaka who created Senryū Girl, Rent A Girlfriend, and Domestic Girlfriend one-shots, so we have high expectations from the new manga.
The official website describes the upcoming manga as, “Alone in my bed, in the middle of the night, your voice alone saved me. I want to speak to you again. I have something I want to tell you.”
The Senryū Girl manga series revolves around the life of Nanako Yukishiro, a high school student with a unique communication style. Instead of traditional sentences, Nanako communicates through senryū, a form of Japanese poetry consisting of 5-7-5 syllables.
This creative and heartwarming story explores Nanako’s daily adventures, friendships, and the blossoming romance between her and Eiji Busujima, a former delinquent who becomes her senryū mentor.
With humor, heart, and a touch of poetry, Senryū Girl takes readers on a journey filled with laughter, emotions, and the art of new expression. We can’t wait to see what Mayonaka Heart Tune will bring us.

All About Senryū Girl
Senryu Girl, also known as Senryuu Shojo, is a manga by Masakuni Igarashi, which was released in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine from October 2016 to April 2020. The entire story is collected into thirteen manga volumes.
The anime series adaptation was announced in 2018. The series was produced by Connect, with Masato Jinbo taking the director’s role and writing the series, and Maki Hashimoto designing the characters.
It aired from April 6 to June 22, 2019, on the Animeism programming block on MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS. The opening theme song, Kotonoha no Omoi, was performed by Sonoko Inoue, while the ending theme song, Ordinary Love, was performed by Rikako Aida.
The Plot
At Karai High School, Nanako Yukishiro may appear as a pretty and serene 16-year-old, but she can only communicate solely through 17-syllable senryuu poems.
On the other hand, Eiji Busujima, a former delinquent, has transformed into a senryuu enthusiast, finding peace in this art form. Despite Eiji’s tough exterior, he and Nanako, both members of the Literature Club, share a heartwarming bond.
Their story in the series endearingly captures the simplicity and charm of their daily lives.
Is Senryū Girl Worth a Watch?
Nanako’s welcoming personality, along with her open-mindedness and eagerness to befriend anyone, including former delinquent Eiji, forms the heart of the series.
The chemistry between these two Literature Club members is a highlight, filled with running gags that reflect their deeper bond. Despite Eiji’s dense nature, it’s clear that there’s more to their relationship than meets the eye.
Senryuu Shoujo is a great slice-of-life comedy, delivering a constant stream of humor that pokes fun at the characters’ quirks and relationships.
At its core, the series is a lighthearted anime that depends heavily on character chemistry instead of deep storytelling. Its humor is direct and everyone may not like it, but it finds its audience with those who appreciate this style.
To add to everything, Studio Connect’s vibrant visuals and character designs bring the manga’s pages to life, capturing the essence of school life while conveying the characters’ personalities through their appearances and expressions. Overall, it’s a good watch if you’re a slice-of-life fan.
