The DC film universe is undergoing a fresh direction led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, but it seems that Gal Gadot will continue to be part of Wonder Woman’s future.
Gal Gadot first appeared as Diana Prince in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and subsequently took on the lead role in 2017’s “Wonder Woman” and its 2020 sequel, “Wonder Woman 1984”, both directed by Patty Jenkins. Additionally, she also made appearances in “Justice League” and its Zack Snyder-helmed director’s cut.
After Gunn and Safran assumed control of the rebranded DC Studios at Warner Bros., the initial plans for Patty Jenkins to direct “Wonder Woman 3” were abandoned. This decision left Gal Gadot’s future as Wonder Woman uncertain.
Adding to the confusion, Gadot made a cameo appearance alongside Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman in “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller, which was ultimately cut, further complicating matters and leaving fans unsure about her continued involvement in the DC film universe.
According to Gal Gadot, in an interview with ComicBook.com’s Chris Killian for her upcoming Netflix movie “Heart of Stone” before the SAG-AFTRA strike, she revealed that she is set to work on “Wonder Woman 3” alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gadot expressed her love for portraying Wonder Woman, emphasizing the personal significance of the role. As per her discussions with James Gunn and Peter Safran, they are planning to collaboratively develop the third installment of the Wonder Woman franchise.

Gal Gadot though not aware of the final casting decision, acknowledged the ongoing auditions and expressed her belief that all the candidates were deserving of the roles.
Gadot stated that she observed the screen testing process for the roles in “Superman: Legacy,” but she is not aware of the final casting decisions. Nevertheless, she expressed her enthusiasm for the talented actors involved in the auditions, wishing them the best of luck and an enjoyable journey in taking on such significant and exciting roles in the film.
As of now, the specific details for Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership remain uncertain. The current slate of projects for Chapter One of the DC Universe, titled “Gods and Monsters,” does not include a standalone Wonder Woman movie.
However, there are concrete plans for a Max series called “Paradise Lost,” which will delve into the intriguing stories set among the Amazons on the island of Themiscyra. Additionally, Gunn has expressed interest in creating a Wonder Woman animated series.
