What if an unknown creature emerges on the oil rig you are working at and starts to possess people and end their lives? How will you survive and keep yourself safe in a situation where you have no knowledge of the supernatural creature behind you wanting you dead?
What if, after getting infected, you start having behavioral changes and try to charge at someone you love? Based on a similar plot, a supernatural series titled Rig 45 was released for the viewers to watch on Amazon Prime. Directed by John Strickland and Alex Holmes, Rig 45 follows a Scottish oil rig in the North Sea getting enveloped in an unnatural fog, which cuts off the crew’s communication with the outside world.

Created by David Macpherson, the series stars Emily Hampshire playing the role of Rose Mason, a representative of the oil company.
Iain Glen plays the role of Magnus MacMillian, the crew’s leader, Martin Compston plays the role of Fulmer Hamilton, the communication and radio communications officer. Released on 6 January 2023, the series has six episodes in the first season. Produced by Suzanne Reid, the series has done well for itself amongst the viewers. The last episode left the viewers confused as to what exactly happened there.

Rig 45 Season 1: Ending Explained
The series focuses on a bunch of crew members on an oil rig as they get attacked by an ancient parasite, leading to the death of several people. The series starts with the crew trying to take control after bad weather worsens their condition before a crew member falls to her death.
The scene shifts to the present, where Andrea prepares breakfast for her family. Andrea receives a call from the company she is working for, asking her to return to work. Initially, Andre refuses as she wants to spend Christmas with her family, but relents after getting the offer of a promotion, thus giving her a chance to work near her family.
Andrea gets ready to board Kinlock Bravo, an oil rig, and investigate the reason behind the supernatural events. The crew on the oil rig begins to experience strange events like electrical faults and tremors before the rig is enveloped in a fog.
The fog cut off the oil rig’s connection with the outside world, leading the crew to become stranded. After one of the crew members gets into an accident, the temper among the remaining crew members gets out of control.
Baz, the crew member who took the fall, starts to experience strange visions and symptoms. Kinloch Bravo rig is contacted by the Stand-By-Vessel, and the crew starts to hope for a rescue. The unit continues to take turns to the forthcoming decommissioning. Things take a turn for the worse when Leck, a crew member, dies under bizarre conditions after he stands in the fog. Meanwhile, Alwyn dies after his encounter with Baz, and Hutton tries to escape after being confined.
In a twist, Rose discovers that the ash contains parasitic spores. Baz is presumed dangerous after he goes missing, and Magnus sends a group of crew members to look out for him. Fulmer gets isolated after the spread of the parasite increases significantly on the rig.
Baz starts to show increasingly strange behavior while Rose makes a perplexing breakthrough in regard to the spores present on the rig. The rig starts to grow more pores, and Garrow ends up getting infected by the spore.
New problems arise at the rig after the electrical system goes down, and Fulmer decides to do something dangerous to prove that he is still trustworthy. While trying to recover from his injuries, he tries to help Rose and Heather in their investigation of the spores.
Soon, Baz and Garrow seek a way to attempt and close down the oil pipeline and realize they would need Fulmer to shut it down. Meanwhile, Fulmer struggles to keep his sanity, and Magnus tries to keep the crew’s morale high after the signal is back on the rig, but the unit fails to contact people from the outer world. The unit begins to think they are getting help after the fog appears to move inland.
Did The Crew Survive?
The faith of the crew members is restored after a lifeboat from Kinloch Charlie arrives with Pictor Coake. Coake makes his presence known after he undermines Magnus’s presence on the rig. Coake creates a division in the crew where Fulmer helps Garrow and Baz with their mission.
Soon, the unit realizes that Coake isn’t telling them the entire truth. In a shocking turn of events, Coake plans to kill the crew members with Hutton, Murch, and Dulin’s help to gain control over the pump room. The revelation of the reason behind the explosion of Kinloch Charlie gets revealed along with Pictor’s plans.
While Rose and Fulmer work out the extent of the coded message they have discovered, the crew works together to find a solution for the ongoing clashes and deaths. Baz is helped by Magnus, Rose, and Fulmer to stop the Ancestor from triggering another Storegga Slide.
Before Coake can end the parasite’s life, the crew stops him. Baz stays behind on the rig while the rest of the surviving crew gets rescued. The series ends with a tsunami approaching and destroying the rig and the entire coastline while the rescued unit watches from a distance.
The crew emerged after it started to perceive the drilling as an attack on itself. The parasite would kill the one it deemed unhealthy while healing the one it deemed healthy. The surviving crew members worked towards ensuring the Ancestor’s survival.
