The plot happens in the 16th century when India was ruled by the Mughal Empire under Akbar. The plot evolves in such a way that we see his three sons named, Salim, Murad, and Daniyal fighting for the throne and competing against each other. We see various elements in the story as it unfolds in a twisted way where politics takes too much of people’s minds while also showcasing the best and peak of the Mughal empire in India.
There are various timelines explored as the story takes place in the layers of the Mughal Dynasty. We see the drama evolve in such a way that we see the beauty and romances of the time while it also deals with the trauma it caused while taking a fall. The tale develops through various generations of this empire.
In the second season of the show titled Reign of Revenge, we see Salim as the protagonist. He has been exiled from the Mughal Empire as an enemy. Although, he is the eldest legitimate child of Akbar and, thus, will do anything to get his throne back. He is seeking blood and revenge from his brothers, who have played their part in taking him from the kingdom.

While on this journey, Salim is set on a dark and dangerous path that might even get him killed. There are enemies all around him who are ready to report his activities to the authorities. Although, there is one person who seems to be on his side. It is his love interest named Meherunnissa.
This is a very beautiful story that has previously been featured in many Bollywood films as well. A bit of a spoiler (avoid it if you must), but we will see Salim really getting that throne and becoming Emperor Jahangir. Although, Anarkali, a courtesan at Akbar’s court with whom Salim fell in love and loved him back.
Turns out that Akbar really did not want his son to be marrying a person who was not respected in the court enough and, thus, wanted to break their bond apart. He wanted Salim to marry a princess of a reputable family. This was why he got Anarkali mured into the small wall of bricks with no escape while she was still alive. Rumor has it that she died of lack of food and oxygen inside of it.
There are various other claims that Akbar actually paid Anarkali to get out of his son’s life, and this was all a facade because an escape was already planned. Anarkali would be dead in Salim’s eyes so he could move on while she could escape and live a better life somewhere else.
