The new Album: “Where the Light Goes.”
The award-winning band Matchbox Twenty is making a grand return after a decade-long hiatus with their new Album, “Where The Light Goes. “on May 26, 2023. Earlier this month, this famous band commenced their 54-date tour, called the Slow Dream tour, during which they will perform a blend of their old classic hits and new tracks from their latest Album in August.
The band initially intended to release a couple of songs to accompany their tour, but drummer/multi-instrumentalist Paul Doucette sparked the idea of making a full-length album. The band members shared their creative process for the Album, saying it was natural and reminiscent of old times.
They found that their communication with each other had become stronger over the years, which helped build the record. The Album contains 12 songs and covers various topics such as self-discovery, taking chances, and finding positivity in a dark world.
The lead single of the Album, “Wild Dogs (Running in a Slow Dream),” was added to the Album after the band recognized its potential and decided not to overthink it. Matchbox Twenty’s previous albums already boast hits like “3 AM” and “Unwell,” but the band felt the creative drive to make a new album and deliver heartfelt songs for their fans.
In a recent interview, the band expressed that starting the machine back up after such a long hiatus feels oddly comfortable and normal for them. They have embraced change throughout their career, faced challenges, and adapted to new technologies and processes.
While the world has changed, their method of creating music remains constant and unique. The band started working on the songs for the Album in 2020, initially planning to release a couple of songs but eventually decided to make a full-length record.
The creative energy between the band members felt natural but also evolved with them over their journey together. They were more conscious of each other’s feelings, creating a healthier and more collaborative environment than just implementing their own ideas.
The lyrics on the Album are personal, with a touch of other themes, emphasizing positivity and hopefulness. The Album’s process came together quickly, with some songs being partially or fully written before the studio sessions.
The band members were delighted with the result and believe that the Album promises some of their strongest songwriting. Therefore, Matchbox Twenty is making a comeback with their album “Where The Light Goes” after a decade-long hiatus, and the band is excited to share their new music with fans after a long time and embark on a tour to reconnect with their audience making new memories.
