Hank Williams Jr has a terrible accident when he and his friend hiked Ajax Peak in Montana. As the artist was 26 at the time, he fell more than 500 feet during the trek. As the accident made headlines in no time, the severity of the situation compelled the helicopter to land about a quarter of a mile away from the accident scene.
As the intensive rescue mission took six long hours, six men were able to rescue the artist to the helicopter, and they rushed him to Missoula Community Hospital. Hank Williams Jr faced several injuries as he struck a boulder and fractured his skull, and even his nose, teeth, and jaw were also broken into pieces.
Williams spent as many as seven hours in surgery, where a team of five doctors operated on him as he suffered from facial and head injuries. Williams’ mother further stated that it was a miracle the boy was living while calling him so young and tough, as she believed that it was just God’s will for him to live.
Williams Jr recalled the accident in his autobiography, saying how he tried to put his hands up to feel his nose while saying how his nose should be, and there was nothing there. The artist recalled his teeth, and parts of his jaw fell out in his hand.

Hank Williams Jr recalls the terrifying accident as he stated how when he fell, there were only two people he saw when he woke up in the hospital bed, and that was his godmother, June Carter Cash, and her husband, Johnny Cash.

Hank further recalled how June put a cross on him and told him that it was all going to be alright and that he never knew if he would be able to sing again or not, talk again or not, and was not even thinking about what he was going to look like while admitting that it was a scary time. As the artist appeared on The Bobby Bones Show, Hank Williams Jr stated that he didn’t think he would survive the fall and further admitted that he remembers every bit of the incident.
