There Takamura showed Ippo a couple of moves and was amazed to see how fast he understood it. After realizing he has a build suitable for a boxer, he tries to convince Ippo to give it a try. He gives Ippo a videotape containing clips from famous boxing matches. After watching the tapes, Ippo was mesmerized by the sports and becomes inspired to try.
Not just that, Ippo wanted to pursue the sport in a professional capacity. To see if Ippo has what it takes, Takamura tests him. After proving his worth to Takamura, he takes Ippo to Genji Kamogawa and vouches for him, and thus is the birth of The Wind God Makunouchi Ippo.
