Fans of Taylor Swift and Beyonce have taken to social media to express their frustration and criticism regarding the availability of tickets labeled as “obstructive view” for their respective tours.
Both Taylor Swift and Beyonce are gearing up to embark on tours across the United States. Beyoncé is set to perform the remaining shows on her “Renaissance” world tour, while Taylor Swift is concluding the North American leg of her “Eras Tour.”
Both the “Renaissance” tour by Beyonce and the Eras tour by Swift are projected to become some of the highest-grossing tours of all time. Forbes reported that the “Renaissance” tour has the potential to generate between $275 million and $2.4 billion from ticket sales alone by the time it concludes in September.
On the other hand, the Eras tour is expected to earn Taylor Swift around $1.9 billion. These impressive figures reflect the immense popularity and widespread appeal of these two talented artists on their respective tours.
Fans lashed out at Taylor Swift and Beyoncé’s tour tickets. Why?
Some fans have been taken aback by the availability of “Listen Only” and “Obstructed View” tickets currently being offered for sale. These tickets come with the caveat of having partially obstructed views of the stage, primarily due to the venue’s location or seating arrangement. Consequently, they are being offered at a lower price compared to other ticket options.
Despite the lower price of “listen only’ and “obstructed view” tickets, many fans have voiced their concerns, arguing that they are still being charged too much, especially when they find themselves unable to see the stage at all due to significant obstructed views in some cases.
According to the Independent, some fans shared their experience of purchasing “obstructed view” seats at Taylor Swift’s recent shows for $50 (about £38), only to realize that these seats were situated directly behind the main stage. As a result, their view of the singer was limited to just their entry onto the walkway, and they were unable to have a clear view of the entire performance.
What did the viewers say about their experience?
Fans have been sharing their experiences with ‘obstructed view’ tickets for Taylor Swift’s recent shows. One fan humorously remarked that although the tickets only allowed them to see the cleaning cart and say goodbye to Taylor, it was still worth it.
Other fans shared their disappointment as they almost purchased tickets but ultimately decided against it when they realized the seats were located behind the screen, severely limiting their view of the performance.
Another concertgoer expressed their disappointment on Twitter after attending Beyonce’s concert. They shared a picture of their view, which was obstructed, despite having purchased floor tickets. The fan claimed that they were not informed about the obstructed view when they bought the tickets, adding to their disappointment.
One frustrated fan expressed their disappointment on social media after purchasing floor tickets to Beyince’s concert, only to have their view obstructed by a large structure. They were disappointed that the tickets did not mention anything about the view being obstructed, leading to an unpleasant experience.
The resale of obstructed view tickets on various ticket resale sites is another concern the fans raised. Some of these tickets were being re-prived at exorbitant rates, reaching over $700 each.
Social media was flooded with complaints from fans about long waiting periods and website crashes during the pre-sale ticket launch. Reports surfaced stating that shortly after the sale, some of these tickets were being re-listed on secondary ticketing platforms like StubHub for staggering prices, reaching as high as $22,700 (£19,100) each.
