The musical documentary created by Bill Simmons is prepared to return with a bang in April on HBO channel. The series features a variety of singers, novelty acts, dancers, and musicians and their days of struggle to their days of fame. The first season of the show premiered on 23 July 2021 and featured six episodes with a run time of 110 minutes.
The first episode of season 1 featured the story of Woodstock 99 a three-day music festival that promotes unity. The second episode featured Alanis Morrissette’s groundbreaking album titled “Jagged Little Phil” and how she began her career. The third episode featured the story of the late singer DMX and his comeback after doing time in prison for tax evasion. The fourth episode featured the story of Kenny G and his musical background.
The fifth episode featured the story of Robert Stigwood and his journey from managing artists to producing hit shows. The series starred Michael Lang, John Scher, and Wesley Morris. Music Box Season 1- Episode 6 Recap
The sixth and last episode of the Music Box series titled ” Juice World: Into The Abyss,” which premiered on 16 December 2021, featured the story of the late rapper Jarad Anthony Higgins popularly known as Juice WRLD. The episode gave a glimpse of the struggles the rapper had to go through to deal with his meteoric rise to success.
The episode showcased the life and tragically short career of the gifted rapper Juice Wrld and his struggle with drug abuse. The episode also featured exclusive footage, unreleased music, and dozens of industry interviews. It is an intimate eye-opening exploration of the life of the singer. It was the era of the singer, with millions of fans attending his concerts and showering love on him.
His sudden rise to fame became unmanageable for Juice WRLD, and he soon began having anxiety from trying to separate his personal and professional life. Soon the singer started intaking drugs which got out of control over time and he had to deal with the same. His drug abuse started to take a toll on the singer and his career.
The episode was directed by Tommy Oliver. The singer died of a drug overdose in 2019 post and the documentary was released as a part of HBO’s Music Box series.

The first episode of the renewed season of the Music Box series titled “Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed” will showcase the life of the singer and songwriter Jason Isbell. The singer takes the audience on an unexpected journey through his musical evolution and creative process as he goes to record his new album in the studio.
He is seen recording his new album “Reunions” with his band The 400 Unit. With striking frankness and honesty, Isbell lays bare information about his difficult childhood and his struggles with addiction and relationships. He pours all his difficult battles into his music. Isbell is forced to confront his demons when he and his family are forced into lockdown during the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Isbell also needs to confront the self-doubt and fears that isolation brings for a recovering addict. Isbell also admits the difficulties which came with him closely collaborating with his wife Amanda Shires, a well know singer and songwriter herself. The documentary will also present to the viewers Jason’s way of creating music. As the documentary moves forward it shows the viewers how intricately linked Isbell and his wife are artistic as they write, record and perform songs together.
It also shows the audience how if a husband and wife collaborate, it enhances and complicates their relationship at the same time. The documentary shows the four times the Grammy winner connected the dots from his childhood in rural Albama to battling alcohol and substance abuse during his time with the band Drive-By Truckers.
