An incredibly successful British period romantic war drama, Poldark, is based on the twelve best-selling novels that go with the same name written by Winston Graham. This TV series had five seasons with a total of forty-three episodes aired from 2015 to 2018 on NBC and PBS Masterpiece. Currently, the series is available on Prime Video, PBS Masterpiece, PBS Passport, and DVD.
Aidan Turner played Captain Ross Poldark, who found his lover engaged to someone else, his father died, and the partially destroyed estate after returning from the American Revolutionary War. Throughout the series, he remains busy gathering the shattered pieces of his life.
Ross Poldark is not a real person. However, the series of events is based on some real-life events. The facts presented in the show depict the eighteenth century. For instance, the tin and copper mines and many other events are really a part of Cornish history.
Poldark Filming Location
Most parts of Poldark’s shooting took place in Cornwall, South West England, known for its strong cultural identity and rich heritage. The TV series showed how unspoiled and pleasant the location is. The Poldark Filming Location contains old-fashioned areas, rocky beaches, and romantic moors that can be potential travel destinations.

Botallack & Levant, Penzance
According to Heida Reed (Elizabeth Warleggan recommended filming at Botallack mines to depict a self-respective moment in the series in case they wanted to show someone dealing with heartbreak or a deep internal conflict. Thus, Grambler and Wheal Leisure got shot at Botallack Mine. It was also the home for other mining scenes with CGI.
Various wooden huts got built in Botallack. However, the crew members had to face the weather at the top of the clip. The Tressiders Rolling Mill got filmed in St Just at Levant Mine and Beam Engine. Francis and Ross Poldark discussed whether the engine went according to the owner’s expectations at this place in the second season.
St. Agnes Head, Perranporth
Certain shots for the mine and the Nampara Valley have been filmed at St. Agnes Head, Perranporth. Winston Graham, the author of the Poldark novels, stays just a stone’s throw near St. Agnes Head in Perranporth. Wheal Grace was actually the backdrop of Wheal Coates.
St Breward Area, Bodmin Moor
Poldark family’s house was actually the farmhouse in Bodmin Moor. The homes of the miners and Poldark’s tenants got shot at the cottages at Minions. Some farms and barns got shot somewhere else in the third season. However, the St. Breward Area got used to show the exterior.
Kynance Cove, Helston
Kynance Cove gets located only a mile away from Lizard Point. Owned by the National Trust, the Kynance Cove, is at the southernmost tip of the UK. Along with other locations, it is also the most filmed place in the series.
Kynance Cove was used to film the scene where Poldark marched to the prison. Similarly, Demelza and Ross landed in a boat at this place. It also got used in shooting Nampara in the second season.
Holywell Bay, Newquay
Shots from Porthcothan Beach and Hendrawna Beach in Newquay were taken to depict Nampara. The Warleggan’s beach near Nampara in the second season got shot at the long sandy Holywell Bay and Gull Rock. You will easily point out the twin islands in the third season.
Porthcurno & Pedn Vounder
The fictional Nampara Cove shown in the series got set in Porthcurno. Demelza spied on Ross while he was busy swimming in the genuinely Cornish and unspoiled place, Porthgwarra. It was one of the memorable scenes of the series. The small hidden cove named ‘Porthgwarra’ gets located only two miles west of Porthcurno.
Padstow Area
Nearby beaches and cliffs only got featured from the areas near Padstow, though actual filming did not take place there. Elizabeth struggled with her horse in the opening scene of the third season at Stepper Point, which lies north of the Padstow Area. Poldark’s Nampara Bay got shot down the coast at Portcothnan’s beach.
Gunwalloe, Helston
Dr. Dwight’s cottage got filmed at a little cottage near Gunwalloe. Having a history of pirate treasure and shipwrecks, the place is at the edge of the Lizard peninsula. It must have inspired the show makers to film the large shipwreck scene of the series here.
