Following Murder Mystery 1 four years earlier, we followed up with Nick and Audrey as they prepared to embark on their first holiday and period of relaxation since the events in 2019. It didn’t go as planned with Vikram the Maharaja being married and then missing on his wedding day. We saw Nick and Audrey having to work together to figure out who was in the lead of the grand scheme in order to obtain $70 million for his swift return.
I know the movie is called Murder Mystery 2, but it doesn’t even really center around a murder this time around. I’m guessing that title is a bit more catchy than Kidnapping Mystery 2, though it doesn’t flow that well. So with that, break down, let’s recap, do a Murder Mystery 2 Ending Explained, and explain all the important things in this movie. Then I will go into the things that bugged me about the movie and the issues it had.
Murder Mystery 2 Ending Explained
Well, this was undoubtedly an interesting film, and I was what it was, a sequel to The 2019 Murder Mystery. As we continued through Murder Mystery 2 to its conclusion, we realized that Audrey and Nick were being blamed for Vic’s abduction and the other murders while they were in Paris. This involved the city’s destruction and the murder of numerous people, including Mr. Lou.
Nevertheless, we in the audience knew this was not the case and that Nick’s face had been digitally inserted into the video. The kidnapping was initially supposed to be carried out by one of the primary characters who had been invited to Vic’s wedding. Thus, the only other candidates were Francisco Perez, Colonel, the Countess, her friend, and Saira. Due to a lack of proof and finger-pointing, it seemed this wouldn’t be the case as the plot unfolded.
But it came out that the mysterious plan was being carried out by none other than Miller, a notorious detective and ex-MI6 agent. He did it to get the $70 million ransom, which ties back to Audrey’s prophesy after the van crashed into the cafe.
When we assumed he was killed in the car explosion, which didn’t happen, he went into a heatproof compartment in the back and survived the heat and the fire. He was intended to be the suspect, but this was done to divert attention from him, which it accomplished.
However, while trying to get a bag full of cash, one of his goons is struck by a garbage truck. It suggested that his plan was not going to work exactly as intended.
Action At Eiffel Tower
We saw that Connor Miller confessed his plan and how he organized the whole thing only after Audrey and Nick ran away from the spot where they had tracked the garbage truck to. As a result, they all fought on the top of the Eiffel Tower, with Connor trying to get away with the cash. Vic had already been brought back to safety; nothing further could have been done.
However, after a fierce face-off, Audrey repeatedly appeared to be dangling off the top of the Eiffel Tower. Instead, it turned around, and we witnessed Colin being dragged to the ground as $70 million floated through the air and over the floor of Paris.
He halted just before the helicopter, giving the impression for a split second that he would make it. The helicopter crashed into the Seine River due to the broken cable, which was visible in numerous shots throughout the face-off. This happened at a crucial time since everyone inside the restaurant was about to be shot.
Where Are Nick And Audrey Going?
Colin’s death and Saira’s surrender to the police allowed Audrey and Nick to fulfill their original wish—to have their names permanently carved on Paris’ Lovelock Bridge—which they had expressed at the beginning. This is what we saw happen.
At the very start of the movie, the pilots show up as they are there and give Nick and Audrey $10 million as thanks from Vic, who also said they could take a break together.
Unexpectedly, the pilot disclosed that he was American and not European. And after forcing them to give him the bag of cash that Vic had given them, which they did, he leaped out of the chopper with his parachute as it was moving. Vic and Audrey would then have to navigate a moving airplane and touch down carefully, something we couldn’t see because the movie had already ended.
But the setting of where they were might hint at the possibility that a third chapter of this new franchise, as well as a sequel to Murder Mystery, is in the works. Therefore, it will be intriguing to watch if it is something that will happen. So that’s my Murder Mystery 2 Ending Explained. Hopefully, if they make a Murder Mystery 3, it’s actually about a murder. Also, take your time to work on the script.
Murder Mystery 2 Review
Now we have Murder Mystery 2, and I feel it’s impossible not to have your expectations set correctly at the door from the jump, especially after seeing the first one. Like you’re not going into this one expecting a legitimately good movie. But when you go to McDonald’s, you’re not pissed off that they don’t have expensive caviar on the menu. You know what you’re signing yourself up for here.
This movie has two stars that have great chemistry together. It has a short 90-minute runtime, and people love this revival of the Who Done It genre, which is well and good.
But as I said earlier, the Mystery isn’t even centered around a murder this time. It’s about a kidnapping, which threw me for a loop, I have to be honest. But I guess Kidnapping Mystery 2. It just doesn’t roll off the tongue as easily. So I don’t fault them there.
Instead of going completely fresh for the sequel as Glass Onion did, Murder Mystery 2 picks up right where the first one left off; it revisits some of the old side characters from that previous entry. I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t just watched the first movie in preparation for this sequel because most of the side characters are annoying and boring.
But Mark Strong is a new face this time, and I thought he was a great addition as this kind of badass Navy SEAL search and rescue expert. He does a good job showing the two main characters what a real professional looks like, and it creates some funny banter there. But other than him, the side characters are insanely forgettable.
Murder Mystery 2 Has Pretty Decent Action And Comedy
I have to say, though, one thing that surprised me with this movie, and it does it better than the previous one, is that I found the action sequences pretty decent. They were fairly creative and interesting, which is not something I was expecting when I hit the play button on this one.
And there’s a scene in the back of a getaway van where I laughed throughout the entire sequence. Does it deliver anything we haven’t already seen done before? Probably not, but it hits all the necessary marks to be effective. Chock full of good physical, comedy one-liners, and snappy editing. And the same goes for this insanely over-the-top finale on the Eiffel Tower.
I saw someone mention that this movie is way better if you picture the events of this film and the events of John Wick Chapter 4 occurring simultaneously, and I can’t deny that. These movies coming out back-to-back and using many of the same large-scale set pieces is a hilarious coincidence. But at the end of the day, these movies are just messy, harmless fun that doesn’t push the needle in either direction.
Am I ever going to watch this movie again? Probably not. But if they keep making them, I’ll continue to check them out because they’re an easy, low-stakes watch with actors that many of us have a soft spot for, which sometimes you need from time to time. Murder Mystery 2 scores 2.5/5 stars, as it was just an OK movie for me.
