Jacob and Jack are preparing to finally exact revenge on Banner Creighton. They awaken early, as does Cara, who eagerly bids them goodbye. The sheriff joins them as they make their way to Creighton’s residence in town with their posse.
Creighton is savoring his day with a cigar, some champagne, and two questionable women, so they catch him with his pants down. As the sheriff accuses Creighton of killing someone, Jacob finally shows he is still alive.
Creighton assures him and Jack that although they avoided murder this time, they won’t be that fortunate the next time. As Clyde, the livestock agent candidate Cara met in the previous episode, informs Whitfield that Creighton has been taken into custody, Whitfield is in the hills monitoring the progress of his mines.

Episode 7’s recap
Whitfield asserts that it was a mistake to detain Creighton rather than murder him, and he does so without delay. A lawyer he sends to visit Creighton in custody assures him that he will be released on bail the following day because Whitfield has the court in his back pocket.
Cara and Elizabeth prepare for the men to get home to the ranch. Spencer’s travels prevent a letter from reaching him. Therefore, Elizabeth questions the need for her to write to him. Cara claims it’s more for her to express her emotions and thoughts as a coping mechanism.
Elizabeth claims she struggles to express herself, so Cara shows her how to make a cake so she can keep her mind active. Later, much to the ladies’ joy, Jacob and Jack appear. Jack learns in the newspaper over their late meal that Whitfield has been appointed a senior official in a new commission that supervises mining regulations.
Jacob teaches Jack a lesson in politics when Jack questions the absurdity of having somebody who owes mining monitor their regulation. He claims that once a population reaches a particular threshold, say 500, the government is established and is frequently exploited by the powerful to force their will on others who are weaker than them.
Jacob acknowledges that there is no distinction between what he does as the livestock board chairman and what Whitfield performs. He uses the government and its rules as a tool to defend the land and their families while working with the cattle commission. The issue is that his desires and Whitfield’s desires conflict.
After tiring of the conversation, Cara stands up and requests that they stop talking politics at the dinner. Cara knows that her argument with Whitfield is very far from done, so Jacob realizes that she is not angry but rather terrified.
Donna’s father discovers her grandmother’s body after she is left for dead by government agents in another location. Pete Many Clouds, Hank’s child dispatched to inform him about Teonna, swiftly joins him. Pete is instructed to ride ahead by Teonna’s dad, who will catch up when Teonna’s mother is buried.
Later, the four priests searching for Teonna locate Pete while he is sleeping. Pete fights back when they try to take him away and return him to school. Sadly, they overwhelm him and ultimately encircle him. While one brings Pete back to the school, the other two continue their search for Teona.
Pete and the priest go to bed at night. The priest tries to make the case that because they have embraced Christianity, those where he has worked on missions are now prospering, but also, because the indigenous people have not, they are still suffering.
Pete swiftly responds that since the priests disobey the rules they preach and are not punished, their god cannot exist. The validity of the laws enacted by these higher powers is unquestionably called into doubt by Pete’s claim and Jacob’s observation that the government does not always act in the best interests of its citizens.
