In July 2021, when the filming of the season began, Jemima Khan was assigned as the writer as she was a friend of Princess Diana, and since the season had Diana as the main character, she could’ve written the season better. However, the season has a story that can do justice to the real story.
The Crown: Story So Far
The story starts in the year 1947 when Prince Philip and Princess Elizabeth marry and give birth to two kids, Charles and Anne. The Father of Elizabeth and the King of the English throne severely fall ill and are asked if the prime minister should step down as he is incapable of governing because of his age. But the King refuses and dies soon. Now, Elizabeth is on the Throne, and heavy smog hits the kingdom following deaths. Prime Minister takes action and develops the Clean Air Act. With this action, Elizabeth asks Churchill, the PM, to continue to govern.
Elizabeth’s sister Margaret gets attracted to a divorced Royal Air Force officer Peter Townsend. Elizabeth and her husband have clashed as Prince Philips thinks that he is no more than a puppet. He starts living away from the palace, and Elizabeth gets closer to the horse-racing manager, Lord Porchey Porchester. Now, Philips gets jealous and tries to talk to Elizabeth, and she says that she only loves Philips. The couple reconciles. In the end, Churchill resigns, and Anthony Eden becomes the prime minister.
Elizabeth and Prince Philips have fights over and over again, but they reconcile every time. They gave birth to a boy, Prince Andrew. Well, they had issues because of misunderstandings as they were the ones on which everyone had their eyes, so rumors used to spread rapidly. Princess Margaret had to break up her relationship with Officer Peter Townsend as she could not marry a divorcee. Now, she gets attracted to Tony Armstrong, a photographer.
He takes a photo of Margaret in which she appears nude and publishes it on the front page of a newspaper. Elizabeth and the Public were in utter shock. Queen now gets involved in searching for details regarding the photographer and she learns that Tony was involved in a series of physical relationships. Well, Elizabeth decides to hide this information from Margaret. Finally, Princess Margaret and Tony marry. Now, Elizabeth had abandoned Prince Edward from the family as he was involved in sexual scandals and Adolf Hitler.
Churchill died, and the new PM was already forced to step down from his position because of his mistakes. So now, the new PM is Harold Wilson. Rumors begin to spread that Wilson is secretly working for KGB, but the real culprit is Elizabeth’s art advisor, Anthony Blunt. Well, Blunt knew some of the evidence which could prove Philip’s involvement in the Profumo s_x scandal.
Therefore, the Royal Family never publicly acknowledges Blunt’s work just to protect themselves from further media scrutiny.
