The “King of Country Music,” George Strait, has returned to his throne almost after four decades. On Friday, the singer played his first-ever headlining concert at the Nashville Stadium and the first in a doubleheader of shows slated for July 28 and 29.
The singer stated to the crowd, “I (George Strait) am not going to do a whole lot of talking; I’m going to play a whole lot of music in the time that we (vocal group) have.” The singer thundering voice brought seemingly effortless gravitas to a 17-song that includes “Nobody to Blame,” “Fire Away,” “Tennessee Whiskey,” “Parachute,” “White Horse,” and “Starting Over” from his upcoming November release Higher, which already sounds like a classic.
Fans seemed they enjoyed music from Little Big Town and Chris Stapleton. Strait’s performance on stage to the music was straight “Deep in the Heart of Texas.” Many fans enjoyed the concert standing throughout the entire show.
All grooving to the Strait’s music and vibing for his performance on his biggest classic hits like “Write This Down,” “I Can Still Make Cheyenne,” “Blue Clear Sky,” “Oceanfront Property,” “Here For a Good Time,” and “Check Yes or No” and others.
George Strait Concert at the Nashville Stadium
In 2019, the singer honored police, firefighters, and other first responders in his “The Weight of the Badge,” where he showcased the badge and many pictures of first responders flashed on the screen behind him while he sang the lines “Nothing the badge itself might feel light, but when you rest it over your heart, it gets heavy.”
After playing many songs of his own, the singer paid tribute to the late Merle Haggard, and he said, “We sure do miss him (Merle Haggard).” Strait also launched “Misery & Gin” by Townes Van Zandt and “Ponchi and Lefty,” which was recorded by Merle Haggard and Wille Nelson.
Chirs Stapleton joined on the midway as a duet companion; as both blended on the chorus, the audience cheers resounded over the Nashville stadium. After the duo performance, the singer sang “Fighting Side of Me” and ended Merle Haggard’s tribute.
George performed for two straight hours continuously, relentlessly entertaining his fans at the stadium. Despite the heat temperature, the country musician performed almost every song. Only at presenting a new home to a combat-injured veteran through the Military Warriors Support Foundation, he stopped his play.
However, the 71-year-old himself is Army Vet, and he supported the organizations over the years and allowed presentations in different cities during his concerts. The CEO and founder of the MWSF, retired Lt. General Leroy Sisco, said to the crowd that on this occasion, the singer himself sponsored the home.
George said that the crowd that people often request is the favorite of his many hit music from the years. The singer quoted that “Amarillo By Morning” is probably one of his favorite songs. It was one 1982 Classic song with a beautiful rendition.
As the schedule of the singer’s two hours came to an end. George gives farewell and waves their hand to all his beloved fans before signing out. A couple of times, Strait and his Ace in the Hole band were back with an encore.
They played another five songs of George Strait hits like “All My Ex’s Live In Texas” and “Folsom Prison Blues” performed for Johnny Cash’s lengthy version (the song was performed by the singer’s band), and played two other songs of his music and ended with his last “The Cowboy Rides Away” music.
Overall, The country musician George Strait gave a dynamic performance in Nashville. The crowd witnessed that the singer was indeed the King of Country Music.
The singer’s singles almost hit the 60 top-of-the-chart in his three decades of career. His album held the record of selling 70 million and bagged many awards. In 2006 the singer was induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
