Due to various factors, several K-pop groups have generated attention in the industry. Blackswan, a group of girls renowned for its all members from different countries, is one such group. And fans have always looked up to their work.
Blackswan is a South Korean multinational girl group. Created under DR Music Entertainment, the girl group follows the idea of members taking admission and graduating. Currently, there are four members in the group, including Fatou, Gabi, Sriya, and NVee, whereas Leia, is on a hiatus since November 2022.
Previously, the group name was Rania but refurbished as BP Rania in 2016. And later on, the group made a comeback as a new name under Blackswan in 2020. All the remaining members are promoting and working as Blackswan.
The Debut of Blackswan
The girl group originally debuted as third-generation idols in 2010 as Rania. But according to the concept, many members graduated from the group, a few left the group due to their personal issues and circumstances, and others quit because of rumors or controversies.
The group changed its name to Blackswan after all of these departures, leaving behind a significantly smaller number of members. Judy and Fatou, two brand-new additions to the group in 2020, were announced.
However, because it was the period of the COVID-19 epidemic, their debut was delayed. In 2020, DR Music Entertainment revealed that the group would be debuting on the 16th of October 2020 with the album, name Goodbye Rania. And the album’s title track was Tonight.
But then, Hyeme, one of the members at that time embroiled in a scandal. As a result, she was forced to break up with the group on the 10th of November, 2020. Following that, Blackswan took a little break before returning later.
In mid-May 2022, DR Music Entertainment made the announcement of the introduction of the two new members in Blackswan, Sriya and Gabi, from India and Brazil, respectively. Later that year, Judy and Youngheun got graduated from the group. And on the 9th of November, Leia went on a hiatus due to health issues.
DR Music, on the 24th of December, unveiled one more official member, Alena Smith, who has a stage name as NVee. Blackswan has a whole group that released their second single album titled That Karma on the 19th of May, 2023.
The Members of Blackswan
Currently, the girl group, Blackswan, has four members, including Fatou, NVee, Gabi, and Sriya, with one inactive member, Leia, been on a break since November 2022. On the 19th of May, a four-members group recently dropped their album That Karma.
The inactive member, Larissa Ayumi Cartes Sakata, popularly known as Leia, was born on the 14th of May, 2001, in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. She was under Pledis Entertainment as a trainee. The Brazilian-Japnese member has the position of Sub-Vocalist, Visual, Lead Rapper, Dancer, and Maknae in the group. Leia was in Rania and then introduced in Blackswan as the third member on the 3rd of July, 2020.
Fatou
Samba Fatou Diouf, popularly known as Fatou, was born on the 23rd of March, 1995, in Yoff, Senegal. She has the position of Leader, Main Rapper, Lead Dancer, and Sub-Vocalist in the group. DR Music introduced Fatou on the 3rd of July 2020 as the Blackswan’s member.
She is fluent in English, Korean, French, Dutch, and German. Fatou did modeling under Cineline Entertainment before becoming a trainee. She did her majoring in tourism at Belgian High School and University as she was brought up in Belgium. She was the fourth member of Blackswan to be disclosed, and she was part of the original lineup.
NVee
Florence Alena Smith, popularly known as NVee, was born on the 10th of January, 1999, in Alexandria, Virginia, United States. She has the position of Main Vocalist in the group. She studied at Thomas A Edison High School and did graduation from Utah Valley University.
NVee has received training in classical singing. She officially joined Blackswan on the 25th of December, 2022. Before moving to South Korea, she was residing in South Jordan, Utah. NVee has also appeared in the movie Avatar: The Last of Airbenders Part 1.
Gabi
Gabriela Strassburger Dalcin, popularly known as Gabi, was born on the 7th of November, 2002, in Santa Catarina, Brazil. She has the position of Sub-Vocalist, and Lead Dancer in the group. The Brazilian-German member is specialized in Urban type of dances.
She completed her education at The Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Gabi was under Cygnus as a trainee for six months before becoming a part of Blackswan. She was introduced to the group on the 26th of May, 2022.
Sriya
Shreya Lenka, popularly known as Sriya, was born on the 15th of September, 2003, in Jharsuguda, Odisha, India. She has the position of Lead Vocalist, Main Dancer, and the maknae of the group. She was also under Cygnus for six months as a trainee before officially joining the group.
Sriya used to do contemporary dancing before she was revealed as a member of Blackswan on the 26th of May, 2022. She took training for five years and became the very first Indian kpop idol in the industry.
Albums of Blackswan
After the former members graduated from Rania and B.S., the group re-debuted with a new name Blackswan with a new and a few former members. When Judy and Fatou joined the group in 2020, they were unable to release their album due to the COVID-19 situation.
But on the 16th of October 2020, Blackswan dropped their first studio album, Goodbye Rania. The main single was Tonight. However, Hyeme had to depart from the group on the 10th of November, 2020. The other members released Close to Me on the 14th of October, 2021.
The group then had four members, including Fatou and Leia, after two more additions, Sriya and Gabi, were unveiled by DR Music on the 26th of May, 2022. But because of health issues, Leia went on a hiatus on the 9th of November. Later that year, another new member, NVee, joined the group, as announced on the eve of Christmas.
Blackswan made a comeback with four members without Leia on the 19th of May, 2023, by releasing That Karma, their second single album after Close to Me.
