The media is a playroom; we’ve seen celebrities use it to their advantage to harass each other and, tragically, bystanders this week. As fashion season concludes in Paris, Kanye West surprised industry insiders with a surprise collection that perhaps left guests perplexed, eliciting a mixed reaction from individuals on social media. That has resulted in a barrage of insults targeting Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, a well-known fashion personality.
West debuted his consistent black and nude tones, complicated shapes, and oversized clothing on the runway on October 3. The most contentious piece, however, is a shirt that reads “White Lives Matter,” which has many viewers upset and disappointed in someone many consider to be “one of the best rappers of all time.”
Karefa-Johnson is an industrial success story, and when she criticized West, she got exposed to harassment on the rapper’s Instagram account.
Who is Gabriella Karefa Johnson?
Karefa-career Johnson’s has been further boosted by her status as the inaugural Black woman to design a Vogue cover and her continued employment with the prestigious fashion magazine. Despite this, she was and continues to be one of the greatest sought-after editorial stylists before her time at Vogue. She has worked with Calvin Klein & Stuart Weitzman, has been a member of the BoF 500 group of 2022, & was recently voted ESSENCE Fashion House Stylist of the Year. Her credentials are extensive, and her honors are well-deserved.
In retrospect, her triumph is critical for an industry in which Black curators have frequently buried their hopes and dreams in favor of what is offered. For Karefa-Johnson, her outspoken attitude to fashion is what has earned her tremendous appreciation, and she serves as an example of optimism for stylists & writers who aspire to achieve new heights in the field.
What did Gabriella Karefa Johnson say about Kanye West?
“He was attempting to depict a futuristic world in which whites would go endangered or, at the very least, could be in sufficient danger to necessitate defending… But the concern is that this same assumption, the concept that white supremacy is on the verge of extinction,” fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson said on Instagram via an image from a messaging thread.
What occurred during the Kanye West show during Paris Fashion Week?
Kanye West, the musician as well as fashion designer, sparked outrage at Paris Fashion Month after his models strolled the runway wearing “white lives matter” t-shirts. The rapper, who likes to go by the name Ye also wore the shirt.
“Everyone here understands that I’m the leader,” he addressed the audience before his performance began. ” You cannot control me. The issue is out of control.” In a 2018 interview with TMZ, West said that slavery “seems like a choice,” one of his previous divisive remarks regarding race.
What did Kanye West post on Instagram against Gabriella Karefa-Johnson?
In response to the Vogue editor’s remarks, West shared screenshots of the journalist’s Instagram account and pictures of herself, making fun of her appearance.
West has now removed these postings and added two new ones in their place. Among them is allegedly a letter from his design director, Mowalola Ogunlesi, who advises West: “I do not really feel you can insult that person. About the shirt, you could hold a meaningful discussion.”
What was Kanye West referred to as by Gigi Hadid?
West’s Instagram postings attacking the journalist & her appearance received backlash from model Gigi Hadid. She made the following now-deleted remark to West: “You wish you had a portion of her intellect. If there is any true meaning underneath any of your gibberish, she may be the sole lady who can save you. Given that they were “fortunate” to be welcomed to your presentation, shouldn’t they be allowed to share their opinions? You are a bully as well as an imbecile.”
The model shared the following statement on her Instagram stories: “I was trying my best not to give that man media attention, but openly attacking someone who critiques your work on your big platform is yet another level of silliness to me. Do not even give if you are unable to accept it. Unless you can’t tolerate judgment, particularly the nice, considerate comment that Gabriella gave after yesterday’s show, then just don’t throw stuff out there for the wider populace to consume.”
But today, when many people felt free to criticize West’s program, he chose to target a Black lady who works for a corporation with which he ostensibly has a good rapport. The rapper most recently participated in the company’s “Vogue World” NYFW event and took a selfie with Vogue’s EIC in September.
Karefa-Johnson & her employer have kept mute, but the fashion community has come to the editor’s defense and denounced West’s behavior.
