So Michael assists him in getting the assistance of pretty-boy/jerk Joey Donner, deceiving him into believing that if he pays somebody to take out Kat, he will get to date Bianca.
10 Things I Hate About You Filming Locations
Filming for 10 Things I Hate About You took place throughout the Seattle metropolitan region, with many sequences taking place at Tacoma’s Stadium High School. Another important place in Seattle was a townhouse in Tacoma, Washington’s North End. The prom scene was filmed in Seattle over the course of three days. We’ll now talk about each location one by one.
Kat and Bianca’s House
While most of “10 Things I Hate About You” was based and filmed in Seattle, Washington, viewers can discover Bianca and Kat’s home in neighboring Tacoma’s North End district. The artsy port city of Tacoma, about a 30-minute drive from Seattle, faces Commencement Bay & Mount Rainier and is home to a globally acclaimed restaurant scene as well as a number of world-renowned institutions.
The movie crew reportedly spent six weeks on the house and damaged a mirror for a scene of Julia Stiles studying in the front room while filming “10 Things I Hate About You,” according to the previous owners. The home was listed for $1.6 million in 2018, but after only a month on the marketplace, it sold for $1.54 million.
Fans of the film may recall scenes such as Bianca’s overprotective father taping a fake pregnancy tummy to her stomach, Kat shouting with delight over her Sarah Williams College acceptance letters, and the sisters leaving for prom. The house appears to have remained largely unchanged since the film was made twenty years ago. A completed basement with a party bar and a marble island in the kitchen area has been added, as well as a few modern modifications.
Padua High School
Stadium High School at North 1st Street, Tacoma, WA, was used to film the film’s fictional Padua High School. The building of this one-of-a-kind structure, known as The Brown Castle, commenced in 1891 and was created by Hewitt of Philadelphia, PA. It was built for the Northern Pacific Rail Company as a tourist hotel, but misfortunes like the economy and fire forced it to become Tacoma High School in 1906. In 1913, it was called Stadium High School, and it now has approximately 1,900 students. All of the apartments are now classrooms, despite the fact that it was designed to be a hotel!
Other Locations In Seattle
The concrete giant rising from the ground to capture a VW Beetle, beside which Cameron asks Bianca for info about Kat, is one of the film’s most odd locations. The Fremont Troll is located at 3405 Troll Avenue North, underneath the Aurora Bridge at North 35th Street, roughly 25 miles north of Seattle. It’s a bit of a trek, but it’s visually rewarding. It was constructed in 1990 as part of a creative initiative to clean up a run-down neighborhood.
Gasworks Park, 2101 North Northlake Way, where Patrick and Kat play paintballing, is still open to the public. This 20-acre shoreline on Lake Union was once home to a coal-fired gas plant that was decommissioned in the 1950s due to the introduction of natural gas. The land was purchased by the city and inaugurated as a public park in 1975, with several of the old buildings remaining. The former exhauster-compressor has been turned into a children’s play barn, while the boiler building has been converted into a picnic shelter.
You don’t have to be a Shakespeare scholar to predict that Kat will soften in the face of Patrick’s constant quirks. And, just like in a high school movie, everything will come to a head during the prom. ‘Padua Prom’ is a hybrid of two sites. The Paramount Theatre, in downtown Seattle, with a spectacular chandeliered lobby with stairways. The prom is hosted at the Century Ballroom, 915 East Pine Avenue, a few blocks east.
