Resurrection can be best described as a rollercoaster ride of drama and twists. Viewers enjoyed this thriller and lauded Rebecca Hall’s stunning performance as a distressed mother. Then there’s Tim Roth, the abuser who returns to his wife’s life and causes complete chaos.
Resurrection’s ending left viewers shocked. The final scene of this thriller movie was brutal and full of gore but satisfying. Resurrection Ending Explained
Margaret is desperate to look for Moore. When she finds Moore’s message, she digs deep to decode it and find some clues. After some brainstorming, she finds the word “Boulevard. She is elated, as she feels it’s the clue she was looking for. She searches for a hotel named Boulevard and finds one. She reaches this hotel and sits outside in a car. She is sure that Moore is inside and waits for him.
Moore emerges from the hotel and leaves for a restaurant. Margaret approaches Moore and speaks harshly to him. A furious Margaret warns Moore sternly to go away from her life forever. She desperately wants him out of her sight. The sadist Moore smirks at her and tells her that she needs to fulfill a condition if she wants him out of her life. Moore tells her to arrive at the office barefoot every single day.
A shocked Moore refuses to do so. She tells him that she isn’t the kind of person who would listen to the orders of others. Moore isn’t pleased and tries to trigger Margaret. He talks about Benjamin, revealing that Benjamin’s life is in his hands. He can kill him easily, and Margaret should be thankful to him for keeping her boy alive.
Margaret is left stunned and furious. She doesn’t want to submit to the evil Moore, but she has no choice. Abbie’s life could be at risk. Moore can harm her if Margaret doesn’t listen to him. Margaret starts walking barefoot to her office. Abbie feels that her mom has gone mad and needs to seek mental treatment.
Margaret’s turmoil is shown towards the end. She obtains an old cloth that she holds dear because it will be used to cover her baby. She collects it and goes to her apartment. She clutches onto that cloth and goes to sleep deeply. When she wakes up, she realizes that she has lactated.
Margaret’s state of distress is shown perfectly. She is vengeful and wants to teach Moore a lesson. Moore took the most precious thing from her life. At the same time, it was becoming increasingly difficult for her to keep Abbie locked in a room.
When Abbie says that she is going to run away from home if Margaret keeps her confined like a bird in a cage, The thought of Abbie running away and leaving her forever stuns her, and she decides to eliminate Moore—the man responsible for all the chaos in her life.
Margaret’s Schemes Fail
Margaret’s plans fail as she is unable to kill Moore. She points a gun at his head but fails to muster the courage to kill him. Moore laughs at her and gives her an excruciating punishment for daring to kill him.
Abbie runs away, and this leaves Margaret broken. She had tried everything to keep Abbie safe, but now she was out and at risk. She was so committed to doing right by her kids this time that she accepted Moore’s late-night invitation to his room. In the event that Abbie did not make it, she had a letter and a visual clip prepared for her.
The Final Attack
Moore greeted her with enthusiasm. He prepared a romantic candlelit meal for two at his place. Upon meeting for the first time, the two had a chance to catch up and reminisce. He said it quite plainly and requested her to “play the baby” for him. She relaxed with her ear on his tummy.
Baby’s screams startled the mother. At that moment, he seemed to be so close that she could almost feel him inside her. She pleaded with her son until he agreed to forgive her. Margaret then does the unthinkable.
She pulled the knife from her sleeve and cut Moore. She harmed him severely by tying him to the bed. In spite of Moore’s warning that the infant could only survive if he didn’t die, she decided to dismember his body when he remained fully alive. Margaret starts removing his internal organs to look for her baby. She finally finds him and takes him out carefully.
Abbie Comes Back: Imagination or Reality?
The movie concludes with Abbie returning home. Abbie picks up her adorable baby brother and starts playing with him. She is full of praise and love for Margaret for all that she did for her kids. Margaret feels elated to hear all the appreciation. Finally, she had become the perfect mother she always craved.
Amidst all this, we hear doomy and menacing music. This music has a special significance in the ending. It depicts that not everything is happy and glorious in the end. Perhaps Abbie never returned, and all this was Margaret’s imagination. She always wanted to be the perfect warrior mother. She failed to do so, and the last scene was her imagination trying to keep her delusional image alive.
