Congratulations on lasting 4 weeks without any chapter whatsoever, but we are here. We are back, and it’s time to just hop right into One Piece Chapter 1087.
Alright, so the first bullet point of the spoilers tells us exactly where this chapter is taking place, and a lot of people, myself including, were hoping that we would go back to the Egg Head, would see Luffy in the gang again because it is actually about three months since we have actually seen them, but here we have it.
We are not going to Egg Head, instead, this entire chapter takes place on Hachinosu Island, and we see more of the Garp Fight. This is wild; this is how you know we are in the Final Saga. This is where Oda is saying to us that he is not playing around, and he wants to show us what Garp and the Blackbeard Pirates can do.
The bullet point after this is not really big, but it says that Aokiji, or if you call him Kuzan’s Ice Attack, doesn’t work on Garp, which is not surprising, right? We saw that the last time they fought, Kuzan froze Garp, but Garp just smiled and broke the ice, so there is nothing surprising there.
However, it is there, thanks to Kuzan’s Failing Ice Attacks, that a flashback gets triggered, and we see the young Garp and Young Kuzan training together and sharpening their Haki. Not only that, but we also find out that, Garp wanted Kuzan to master his Haki.
One Piece Chapter 1087 Spoilers
What I found a little bit more interesting is that leading up until this point in the fight, we haven’t really seen Kuzan using Haki against Garp, yes, sure, you can say that his ice had Haki maybe Kuzan braced himself in Haki; and maybe it is totally fair, but Kuzan has an outright punched Garp with this fist.
This may be that is the show that KUzan is hesitant when it comes to attacking his former master and that is why we are getting this buildup right here, so that by the time he does hit him with a Haki, it is going to be a lot impactful.
Garp and Kuzan’s Flashback
Regardless of that, we are going into the flashback, and we see that Kuzan and Garp are training where they are using the battleships as sandbags!
Garp is a little bit unconventional if you ask me, but then again, this is coming from the guy who throws cannonballs on a daily basis, so I guess punching battleships just makes sense.
One thing that I am really curious about when it comes to Garp’s Haki training is that I do wonder, what kind of Haki is Garp teaching Kuzan, is it Basic Observation and Armanent, or is Garp teaching him Ryuo, or maybe another advanced version of Haki that we haven’t see so far.
This is because we must have to remember that this is Garp, this is not just old pop wiggle-berry teaching his kids how to use Haki, no, this is Garp, the hero of the Marine. We don’t really know how long ago this was, and we don’t really know how old Kuzan is at the time, during this flashback, so it is the bare minimum.
Maybe it is the basic Haki, but I do wish we get to see what Haki Garp is capable of, and maybe it’s a good time to show it and not to go on a too-crazy tangent, but one of the reasons why I am wondering that is because, in Film Red Four Billion Volume, which is like the little data book that they hand out with the movie, Oda mentions that Shanks has the Cancellation Haki.
This means that he can cancel other people’s Observations of Haki, and that is like an advanced form of Haki, a different branch that we haven’t seen before. so I do wonder if Garp has a different branch of his own that he might display in either the flashback or in this chapter.
Alright, I hope you guys have your seatbelts on for this one, because the next bullet point, if you haven’t read them yet, it gets kind of wild.
Shiryu tries to kill Kobi
Later in the chapter, we are back to the present, and we see that Shiryu tries to attack Koby when Garp was busy with his own fight. However, Garp notices this and punches Kuzan, which let him fly in the air, then he runs towards Koby, and that is why Garp ends up taking the hit to save Koby.
Garp pulls in Ace, just like how Akainu was about to attack Luffy, and then Ace took the blow, Garp takes the blow for Kobi, but that’s not where it ends.
Later, we see that Garp and Kuzan clash one more time, and this was when they both hit each other with the Haki. We see a massive explosion come out of this clash, and then the next time when we cut back over to Garp, he was lying down on the ground.
This was also when, Garp finishes out this chapter, by saying, “Hang in there Koby, Justice will prevail.”
Garp Season is over, boys! Here is the thing, Garp isn’t dead; we could say that he is defeated; he has now been captured by the Black Beard Pirates, and narratively I think that this makes a lot of sense, but I am going to reel it back a little bit, I knew that Garp was going to go down, I felt it in my bones.
I said old guys save the new generation; old guy usually does in Anime. I am cool with that, I made amends with Garp leading the series, but I thought that all of the Black Beard Pirates were going to gang up on him, and I was like, Vasco Shots, Pizarro, Sanjuan Wolf, we had three more people in reserve that didn’t even come out to play.
They didn’t even come out to see Garp. All it took was Kuzan and Shiryu of the Rain. We pretty much solidified that the Blackbeard Pirates are not a joke. It is either that the Black Beard Pirates is not a joke, or it’s saying that Garp has got way too old and he can not take damage like he probably used to in his prime.
As I said, I am really mixed about this, I am glad that Garp is going down because, narratively, this is huge; we are gonna get so much out of this, we are gonna get Koby’s Motivation, we are gonna get Luffy’s Motivation. Black Beard is gonna get a bigger thread and a goal for Luffy to overcome now.

Beforehand, we were like, Blackbeard might get some Poneglyph, we might right into them; now if Luffy hears that Garp went down to Balck Beard’s crew, Luffy is going to want the smoke. This is big, narratively, but it is also like, we could have more people gang up on Garp.
Regardless of it, though, I do think that this is big because the minute Blackbeard shows up back at Hachinosu, we are going to get some crazy dialogues, like imagine what a Blackbeard and Garp conversation would encompass because Garp was the guy who took down Rocks D. Xebec, and then we have the Blackbeard who is pretty much the Rocks D. Xebec’s Fanboy of the verse.
Blackbeard named his ships the Saber of Xebac, and he took over Hachinosu, which was Rocks D. Xebec’s home everything about Blackbeard screams Rocks D. Xebec, and so when Garp and Blackbeard meet face to face, I feel like we are going to get some crazy lore dumping. We might even see a Gods Valley Flashback come out of this.
So yeah, I am pretty happy that Garp is going down, but at the same time, I am like, man, Garp could have put in some work, right? Maybe Garp could have knocked down a couple of people on the side, and it is very rough to be a Garp Fanboy today.
In addition to that, we should also think that what is going to be Koby’s move after this as he is going to go through a glow-up phase because earlier, I correlated this to Ace’s incident. Ace died right in front of Luffy, and that inspired Luffy, after grieving for like a month or two, to become way stronger.
That is where we had the time skip, and I feel like Koby is going to be no different; I feel like because of this scenario, Koby is going to become a monster the next time we see him.
