We’ve got a new sci-fi mystery series on our hands, and this one didn’t disappoint. Focused on Lucy Carlyle, Anthony Lockwood, and George Karim, the three of them made up Lockwood & Co, the Independence Agency that rid properties of ghosts that were inhabiting them.
However, with them being a small agency, they had their own unique ways of dealing with things and working with the overarching authority called Deeprack. With there being two main stories to one pig from this first season, let’s do a recap, break down and explain all that there was to take away from it along with the Lockwood & Co Ending Explanation.
Here is Lockwood & Co Ending Explained:
Lockwood & Co Explained
Lockwood & Co was focused around the world in which a problem occurred. It was never properly explained to us, but there was a brief moment in time when something happened which essentially meant that ghosts were able to roam the streets, possessed the location where they died, and haunt the people of the world.
Most of the time the spirit was powered by what was described as a source, for example, the ring that Annabelle had when they found her in the chimney. The only way that the ghost could be tamed by was containing the source in something that was iron coated or covered, as that was what prevented them from escaping. Hence why all throughout the show we saw chains, and the blanket all being made of those things, they were extremely powerful.
The Annabelle Case
The first case that we saw the group embark on was the murder of Annabelle, who was a famous actor from the 80s. This was when we really discovered the power that Lucy held compared to Anthony and George. Lucy specialized in listening and utilizing sound in order to locate the ghosts by channeling them on them. So much so, that she felt like she had a connection with Annabelle whenever she would be awoken.
We saw them break the case and find out that it was Sir John Fairfax who killed Annabelle. And they ultimately released the spirit of Annabelle onto him, allowing her to get her revenge, which ultimately meant that Annabelle wasn’t angry with Lockwood & Co anymore. I actually found this story to be extremely interesting, and I could have quite happily had it run for a little while longer. As this was where we really saw the characters grow and introduce themselves to us.
The Bone Glass Mirror And Bickerstaff
Now let’s talk about the Bone glass mirror in this Lockwood & Co Ending Explanation. So, after the Annabelle case, we then moved on to the main plot that was running throughout the rest of this Lockwood & Co series and this was centered around the Bone glass mirror that everybody. This mirror was created by Edmund Bickerstaff around 100 years ago before the problem occurred.
The Skull that George stole a long time ago actually belonged to somebody who had Bickerstaff as their master. And we found out that due to Lucy being able to communicate with him, a Type 3 ghost. She was one of only two people in the world that was able to do so. The other was Marissa Fitz, who was extremely famous and was the face of the most prestigious organization.
The Bone glass mirror was made from the bones of seven individuals that Bickerstaff killed back in the day in order to fulfill his purpose. Bickerstaff was a cultist and a time when nobody believed that a world where ghosts roam the world was real.
This mirror was something that was said that if it was looked in, you’d be able to see beyond. So instead of being a mirror-like everybody believed it was, it was a window into eternity. However, adults weren’t able to see it ends. Hence why we saw Pamela turn out to be the person who tricked George into being the individual that was going to look inside of it, and she wouldn’t have been able to see the value of it.
The small glimpse that both of them had earlier on in the season when they dug up the grave was enough to get them both obsessed with it as we saw George gradually deteriorating and drawing the symbol as the season unfolded.
Pamela wanted to essentially bring Bickerstaff back to life due to the fact that he was a visionary for his time and was ahead of the world he was in. So by bringing him back, he would have been able to apply his knowledge to today’s world. However, that was an extreme danger due to the fact that he was a serial killer.
With Lucy sneaking down to save George and retrieve the bone glass mirror, she saw that he was actually trapped. Lucy offered herself up to look at the mirror as if she had the talent. But instead, she put the talking head in front of the beam and it absorbed the effects of it until George ran into it and destroyed it, only to the point where Pamela looked at the broken remains and it ended up destroying her.
However, with Lockwood being harmed by the mysterious man with the Golden Blade, we saw that he came down at the right time and threw his rapier at the spirit of Bickerstaff as he was still around and ensured that Bickerstaff was gone for good.
Deeprack ended up with the bone glass mirror and ensured that it was going to be destroyed. But that wasn’t the end of the mysteries. As the mysterious man with the Golden Blade went to battle Lockwood, he said how Anthony’s parent’s deaths were insignificant. Meaning he knew of Lockwood’s past, something we never actually got to find out about.
However, we did see him speaking with Fitz at the end of the episode as well, showing that she may not be the clean-cut public figure that everybody expects her to be. As she mentioned in the ball around halfway through the season, she stated that people see what they want to see. That’s why I feel she’s definitely playing a part and she has a dark side very beneath what she allows the public to see.
Lockwood & Co Ending Explained: What Was Behind The Mystery Door?
The mystery of the door that was inside of Lockwood’s house was something that we never got to find out about and it almost symbolized look what’s past, a door that was never opened. However, at the Lockwood and Co Season 1 Ending, we saw him open the door and show Lucy and. George, what was behind it. But the show cuts are black before we could see it, so I feel we will find out more about it in Lockwood and Co Season two.
There are some theories about what could be behind it. I feel it’s definitely going to contain something about his parents or his entire family. We know that his parents are both dead, so there could be two sources behind the door. One for his mother and one for his father, hence why it’s under lock and key so nobody’s able to access them.
Or they could be type three meaning that they’re essentially stuck in this world and only able to communicate with certain people so Lucy may be able to speak with them if they are what lies behind the door.
Lockwood And Co Season 1 Review
I feel that Lockwood and Co season two has most certainly been set up with the cliffhanger of an ending. So I feel we’ll have to wait and see what’s going to happen if it does get commissioned. I thought this first season of the show was pretty good. We got a good amount of backstory to the characters, especially Lucy with the entirety of the first episode focusing on that, and we got to see them all develop over the course of the eight episodes.
Eight episodes were the perfect runtime for this show. It wasn’t too long, and it felt like just about the right amount of time for the show to get across everything that it needed to. I thought the cast, considering I haven’t seen the main 3 characters in anything before, delivered convincing performances that suited the tone of the show.
I thought Lucy and Lockwood were the stronger two out of the three. I liked the fact that we had two main cases throughout the entirety of the show. I would say, though I did personally prefer that case around Annabelle, and I felt as though we could have had the whole season focus on that. Just because it felt a little more engaging and had a faster pace behind it with the revelations.
Although there were twists in this show, they didn’t feel like surprising ones. There were no real curveballs and I feel like the identity of the man with the Golden Blade should have been revealed. We never really got to find out his identity, and I wish that we did.
I hope we do get to see season two of Lockwood and Co because it was definitely original and one of the more interesting things to be released on the platform in a while, with it being based on pre-existing novels, the stories are already there, so I suppose it just depends on if the appetite is there for it on screen as well as on paper.
