The Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light has been delayed once again, with IO Interactive now targeting a March 2027 release. Rather than pointing to a single technical problem, the developer says the additional delay was chosen to give the team more time to polish the port and ensure it reaches the quality expected by players.
In an interview with Inven Global, IO Interactive explained that the latest postponement was influenced by several factors, including development workload and requests from the marketing side.
“Ultimately, we decided on another delay because we want fans to experience the game in its most polished form on Switch 2,”
the developer said.
This marks the third delay associated with 007 First Light. The game was initially delayed across platforms before the Switch 2 version received a separate postponement, and it has now been pushed to March 2027.
Stable 30 FPS Is IO Interactive’s Main Performance Goal
Despite the delay, IO Interactive says development on the Switch 2 port is progressing well. The team reportedly compared footage produced earlier in the year with more recent builds and saw substantial improvements.
Performance is now becoming one of the final areas of development, with stable 30 FPS identified as the team’s highest priority. IO Interactive also revealed that it experimented with using different frame rates for cinematic sequences, but the approach did not work properly and was ultimately abandoned.
The developer says the port is approaching its final stages, which will include performance optimization and additional fine-tuning before launch.
007 First Light Is Using Meshlets Technology on Switch 2

One of the most significant technical details concerns how IO Interactive is adapting 007 First Light to Nintendo’s hardware. Instead of simply reducing the number of NPCs or dramatically cutting visual quality, the team is implementing a rendering technique called Meshlets specifically for the Switch 2 version.
According to IO Interactive, Meshlets offer a more efficient way of handling rendering workloads, although implementing the technology has also contributed to the longer development period.
The developer explained that the team has had to make compromises because of Switch 2’s memory and hardware limitations, but those changes are intended to be largely invisible to players. Distant objects may have reduced detail compared with the PC version, for example, while areas considered more important to the player’s experience receive greater attention.
IO Interactive also pointed out that the absence of ray tracing on Switch 2 provides additional room for optimization.
Gameplay Will Not Be Reduced To Fit Switch 2
Perhaps most importantly, IO Interactive says the Switch 2 port will not cut fundamental gameplay elements to achieve its performance goals. The team specifically ruled out reductions such as having fewer enemies or making the world feel noticeably emptier.
“Our goal was for the overall experience to remain identical,” I
O Interactive explained to Inven Global.
007 First Light is now scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in March 2027. If IO Interactive can deliver its intended stable 30 FPS target while retaining the game’s core visual and gameplay features, the additional development time could make the delay worthwhile.
