Yuzuki-san Chi no Yon Kyoudai – Youth Story of a Family Episode 1 Recap
In episode 1, we are introduced to the Yuzuki family, which consists of four brothers: Hayato, Mikoto, Gakuto, and Minato, who are the main characters of “Yuzuki-san Chi no Yon Kyoudai – Youth Story of a Family.” A story about these siblings and how they cope with life’s challenges together after losing their parents. The oldest brother, Hayato, rushes to get his younger siblings ready for school after finishing breakfast. Their parents have gone, so they have had to take care of themselves for a while.
Minato feels unhappy about their situation. Minato wants to help with laundry, which Hayato usually does. It is Hayato’s decision, however, to send Gakuto to school instead of Minato. On their way to school, Minato and Gakuto meet their neighbors, Waka and Uta.

Minato decides to make breakfast for the family that night, wanting to contribute to the family. His friends show that Hayato has people he can trust. As a result, his efforts result in a messy disaster, frustrating Hayato.
This leads to an argument, and Minato storms off feeling hurt. After an unsuccessful attempt to persuade Uta to go to the arcade, Minato notices Gakuto’s interest in a flier for the Hoshinooka Fireworks Festival. Gakuto wants to attend the festival to see the fireworks, something he wasn’t able to do as a child.
In hopes that this will earn him the admiration he craves, Minato promises to take him to the festival. As they explore the festival, Minato thinks about happier times with his parents.
The happiness ends when he realizes he’s lost sight of Gakuto. Hayato and Mikoto rush to the festival in search of them as panic sets in. When Minato searches for Gakuto, he contemplates his desire to be able to help his brothers and be considered equal to Mikoto.
They finally reunite, and Minato’s guilt is turned into relief and gratitude. Gakuto thanks Minato for fulfilling his dream as they watch the fireworks together.
In addition to suggesting that they attend the festival as a family next year, Hayato offers Minato the chance to help with laundry the next day, demonstrating their willingness to share responsibilities more evenly. As the Yuzuki brothers navigate life’s challenges together as a close-knit family, the episode ends with them sharing a meal.
