Determined to help Kyouko, Kou went through all the memories of her father to look for the answers she was searching for and also uncover the mystery surrounding Hoshimi Kiku. Yofukashi No Uta Chapter 168 “Hesitant”: Recap
Kou and Kyouko have arrived at one of Hoshimi Kiku’s lairs to find the truth about Kyouko’s father, Kyouichi. Despite being afraid at first, they both walk into the seemingly deserted building. Kyouko says that, in reality, there’s no reason for her to learn anything anymore, as the sole reason for her investigations was to kill Hoshimi Kiku, which is not possible now. Kou notices that Kyouko’s hands start to tremble as she speaks, and so he holds her hand and promises to be by her side as they enter the building.
Kyouko opens the door to reveal a completely empty room with just one object at the center. Kou inquires about the object, and Kyouko replies that it’s a refrigerator, even though she thought he would already know about it. Kou asks if it’s for blood, and Kyouko agrees that it’s the most likely answer as Hoshimi Kiku goes out of her way to reveal this location to her.
Kyouko walks up to the refrigerator and opens the door. She finds her father’s blood stored inside it and tells Kou that when a vampire drinks someone’s blood, they can sense that person’s feelings and emotions to some extent, but the problem is that she doesn’t have anyone currently to drink the blood. She thanks Kou for coming with her and starts walking away when Kou asks her to allow him to drink the blood.
Kyouko instantly refuses, but Kou snatches the bag of blood from her hand and runs away. Kyouko chases after Kou for some time until he finally gives up, and she agrees to him drinking the blood, but she warns him to spit out the blood if anything weird happens. She tells Kou that her dad’s burdens might be too much for a kid like him to handle, but she still trusts him to do the job. Kou gets a little hesitant but eventually drinks blood for the first time.
As soon as Kou swallows the first drop of blood, he feels an intense surge in his emotions. He starts to feel all of the emotions which Kyouko’s father felt like Guilt, anxiety, stress, responsibilities, attraction, expectations, ulterior motives, longing, jealousy, despair, regret, repentance, and many more, which overwhelm him. Kou starts to get lost in thoughts, but Kyouko shakes him and snaps him out of it.
Kyouko hugs Kou as she feels relieved to see that he’s alright. Kou tells Kyouko that he felt all of her dad’s emotions which he couldn’t understand, but he confirmed that he fell in love with Hoshimi Kiku and became a vampire. Everything was the same except for one thing, in the end, Kyouko’s dad wanted to start things afresh, and the last thing he saw in all those emotions was Kyouko’s smile showing how much her dad loved her.
