With the recent release of Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 7, and it is concluding with it looking as though Jaime was going to take down his father as governor of Montana, during the credits, we got a trailer for the mid-season finale.
With this season having a slightly longer run time, coming in with around 14 episodes, this next episode will be the last while it takes a short break. So with that, I thought I’d break down and explain the trailer and the Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8 spoilers.
The mid-season finale looks as though it’s said to be something interesting for sure. With the show taking a small break following the next episode, I feel it’s going to cause a big mix-up within things.
I think John Dutton could be in one of the worst situations that we’ve seen him in for a long while, as the position that he holds as governor of the state and within his Ranch could start to be compromised as his involvement in both is starting to cause them both to deteriorate. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.
Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 7 Explained
As we’re set to approach the mid-season finale next week, Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 7 provided an hour of self-reflection for the characters whilst building upon what’s going to be an epic mid-season finale, where the family is set to turn on each other.
With the cattle Contracting brucellosis and threatening the earnings of the Ranch, paired alongside Jaime, looking set to turn on his father on the public stage, episode 7 put all the groundwork in. So with that, I thought I’d recap, break down, and explain all that there was to take away from this episode so that you’ll have been understanding of what is next to come.
Episode 7 started out with a flashback scene, something we’ve seen a lot of this season. It was at a time when Rip was looking out on watch of the cattle due to the wolves that were in the area. However, at this moment, we saw him get into a fight over bad words that were being spoken about by Beth.
And ultimately, he went on to kill the man who uttered the harsh words. This was included because I feel it was supposed to showcase the love, care, and commitment that’s there between Rip and Beth and that it’s always been that way, even when Beth wasn’t a prominent feature in his life.
Even at the end of this episode, we saw that Beth was prepared to go down south to Texas with Rip, as she couldn’t bear to be apart from him for a long while. Their relationship is certainly an interesting one, but there’s no denying the amount of love that’s there between them.
With John offering Rip a safe haven from the authorities, we saw that the bond between the pair was strengthened more as well. I do wonder, with the focus on Rip and Beth when they were younger being a prominent feature of the season.
It does make me question if something bad could happen between the pair. Maybe something could happen to Rip when he goes down south. In the present day, the threat to the livelihood of the Ranch is extremely apparent due to the rapid disease spreading amongst the livestock.
And then also the threat coming from the horizontal direction, with Jaime looking to impeach his father, it seems as though being John Dutton is going to become a hard job but of the foreseeable. After having a relatively easy run as governor so far, the future isn’t looking so bright. Let’s break this explanation down by the endings of the main characters.
John Dutton
John has had a relatively easy ride as governor of Montana in his short stint so far. He became governor for the sole reason of being able to stop market equities from building the airport on the land. And we saw that he was able to get the lease revoked and prevent that from happening within the space of a couple of days.
So since then, all of his other time has been spent on his Ranch. And he’s not really done much work for the state other than the firing of a lot of his staff and bringing in summer for his own personal reasons. And once we’re on that, we saw them actually share an intimate moment in this episode, too, despite the threat of there being controversy if they were spotted.
We saw that the struggle of the disease spreading throughout the castle is likely to hit the Ranch hard if they don’t survive. All of the cattle would essentially be destroyed by the state if the disease was rampant within them. This means that there would essentially be no profit for the Yellowstone Ranch in an already struggling time.
This season has focused on John being stuck in the past in multiple different ways. When he’s leading Montana, he’s speaking of it as if it was 100 years ago and how it should essentially go back to how it was, which in turn would ultimately make the Stage struggle in terms of Tourism, which at the moment is its biggest money maker and the same applied to the Ranch.
What worked 150 years ago is something that he’s mimicking today. When since then, people have changed, the market has changed, and customers have changed. This episode was the calm before the storm for John Dutton.
I feel we’re going to see a real changing character in the coming episodes, where he will have to pivot and change some of his viewpoints for the survival of his Ranch and his place in power. It all has the potential to crumble around him, so I’m interested to see what’s going to happen.
Jaime
Jaime is being used by Sarah, and I’m amazed at the fact that he can’t see it. Even his secretary can see it and warn him in this episode. He’s blinded by lust and the attention that he’s being given at the moment.
We saw that Jaime admitted that he never really wanted to be a lawyer or be the person that he is today. Instead, he wanted to be on the Ranch with his family, and that’s all he ever knew. But now his father resents him for becoming the very thing that he forged a pathway for.
With Jaime finding out that his father put the land that market equities wanted to build on into a conservation trust, we saw that it meant that market equities would be able to sue the state and put Montana in a tremendous amount of debt.
This would ultimately threaten the livelihood and the well-being for the future of the people. It seems as though this is going to be the very thing that’s going to be capitalized on and used by Jaime against his father. He’s going to use this to rile up the citizens and impeach his own father.
Jaime initially wanted to be governor when his father ran, but we saw the right was taken away from him by his father. Jaime has a vision for a brighter future for the state and also the Ranch to what he was describing.
But he’s going to go about it the completely wrong way, his waging war against his own family, and I believe he’s going to be left out to dry by Sarah, and he’ll have nobody in his corner when the time does come, and he’s betrayed the only people that he can trust, even if he does win.
Beth
Beth has calmed down a lot since episode 4 of the show, and I think that’s because she’s been with the person that she cares about most, Rip. She’s at home with her family on the Ranch, and all of the stress of dealing with market equities and Jamie has stopped.
However, this could be the start of the spiraling for Beth. With her having the future of the Ranch in her best interests and trying to find ways to make money for her father, I feel we could see her now stay put in Montana as the threat of Jaime closing in on the family draws closer.
She was going to be with Rip in Texas, but I don’t think that’s now going to go ahead. I think only Beth or Jaime will make it to the end of the season, as it was alluded to in one of the first shots of the season, with both of them on either side of their father looking at each other menacingly.
Plus, I also feel as though Beth’s photo of Jaime, disposing of his father, could come back to haunt Jaime when it comes to him as governor of Montana if the impeachment is successful.
Kayce And Monica
Kayce and Monica don’t have too much involvement in this season following the death of their child. We’re mainly seeing them navigate the space and find their place within the family again. With Kayce’s vision from last season not coming to anything yet, I do wonder if it will come to the forefront again in the mid-season finale or in the latter half of the season.
Even though they’ve just lost their child, which was a tremendous weight on them, I can’t imagine there are just floating around the Ranch for the rest of the season. There has to be more for them. I thought episode 7 was a good one.
The show’s actually been improving more and more as the weeks have gone on. The scenery, shots of moments where they’re carrying out jobs, and the incorporation of the music that suits the tone and environment are perfect when watching, and it makes it completely different from any other shows that are out there.
With it airing at the same time as 1923, it’s going to be interesting to see how it works alongside it. The story is definitely starting to build to its climax, with Jaime going rogue and betraying his family. Beth looks like she’s going to fight dirty to keep her family safe.
Also, rainwater needs to fight the state due to the pipelines that will impact the reservation’s people due to the reservoir, which contains drinking water, being compromised. It’s going to be an interesting mid-season finale next week.
Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8 Spoilers
With that, we have a better understanding of what exactly happened in the previous episode. Now we will be talking about Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8 Spoilers. Since the trailer for episode 8 has been released, let’s break it down and enter into the Spoilers territory.
Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8 trailer opened up with the line, “the greatest threat to that branch is our father.” It sounded as though it was Jamie speaking the line. To be honest, none of John Dutton’s other children would say that other than Jamie in this present time.
I would also think that this is most likely occurring in a conversation between himself and Beth. Most likely when it looked as though he had blood all over his face, as I imagine she was going to lash out at him.
Underneath this line being spoken in the trailer, we had a view of the Yellowstone ranch with riders something up. I think this is them getting ready to head down to Texas with Rip in order to take the cattle to the least land in order for them to be able to survive and hold on for the following year.
Shortly after this, we had a shot of Jaime with blood coming down his face whilst he stated the line “I will remove the threat,” most likely referring to the first piece of dialogue that we heard. And he was then informing Beth what he was going to do.
This would be the plan to get him impeached and remove him from the government. Then leasing the land back to market equity so money can be made, and the state of Montana will avoid being sued and ultimately make a profit.
John Dutton Needs Everyone’s Help
The next batch of scenes that we had in the trailer was of John Dutton speaking with Monica. He stated, “I’ve got something I need to ask of Casey. I need his help. I need it from all of you”. This was the biggest curveball of the trailer, as I’m not 100% sure what help could be required of them all.
One side of me thinks that he may be looking for Casey to return to the previous obvious role that he resigned from, but I think that’s too obvious. Parts of me think that he may be looking to use the death of Monica and Casey’s child as a sob story to try and get sympathy from the people of Montana, following the hostile environment that will be there, following Jamie’s announcement.
That’s why he could be asking for help from all of them, as it would take an emotional toll on them all. I feel that could well be the case, as I don’t know what more it could be.
After this, we then cut to Jaime on the stand, speaking and looking for approval for his father to be impeached. He stated, “Governor Dutton has violated state law. The Attorney General’s office is seeking impeachment”.
It looks as though this was also filmed, as it was being broadcast on the news, and Beth was watching it unfold. John Dutton looked as though he was preparing to go to his office due to the fact that he was in the attire that he normally wears when he’s present there.
He was also seen to be standing up on stage in front of a crowd. So, he may be getting ready to address the accusations that have been thrown his way and respond to the disruption that his son had caused.
Or rainwater could have got hold of him, and he could be standing in support of Thomas Rainwater following the announcement of the two pipes that could be going through the reservoir. Beth then followed by saying he declared war on this family, referring to Jaime.
John then responded, “I know, Beth.” He looked a little worse for wear, the most he has done this whole season so far, so it must clearly be impacting him. We’ve seen John through his role as governor to the side this season because he achieved all that he ever wanted when he got the role.
This was to stop the airport from being built, but it now seems as though his struggling Ranch, along with the change in the Public’s perception of him following Jaime going public and looking to get him impeached.
This means it may start to take its toll and really throw things into chaos for him, as both of his arms will be struggling. Jaime has burned his bridges with his family, and I believe it will be unforgivable due to the fact that he’s betrayed them all. It also seems as though the story of Rip when he was younger is going to be delved into more, as we saw his shot of him getting rid of the body from episode 7.
Rip’s Past Will Be Explored
Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8 is titled “A Knife and No Coin.” The Synopsis for this episode is as follows: “Jamie follows through on his plan; John approaches Monica with a request and offers assistance to an unlikely friend; the Yellowstone cowboys make a significant adjustment; Back in the past, Rip’s loyalty is shown.”
So basically, Jamie will attempt to impeach John, and given how the patriarch has been acting, she probably has some success. Other than perhaps a time skip, I don’t see how we can move forward with the entire plan to move the cattle.
Many of those characters are just too significant to ignore for a whole year. Will Beth’s contact with the 6666 ranches allow her to reintroduce Jimmy? I secretly hope it’s not. We can guarantee that there has been a lot of commotion going on in the past in addition to all of the drama currently taking on.
There will likely be some drama on each of these fronts. Josh Lucas, who portrays the younger John, stated in a recent interview that there will be at least one more appearance for him in episode 8 and that his future is unclear beyond that.
Of course, one could argue that the current state of the show leaves the show’s future utterly uncertain. Season 5 of the show consists of fourteen episodes, but the release date of episode 9 is unclear. The Paramount Network team has not yet revealed whether season 6 will be renewed. Even if we may want it to, it still may not actually happen.
