Yargi is a Turkish Drama with two seasons and 58 episodes. The show, which started airing on the Kanal D network, is written by Sema Ergenekon and directed by Ali Bilgin. It stars Pinar Deniz, Kaan Urgancıoğlu, Mehmet Yılmaz Ak and many others.
As you can see, this is a very long TV serial, often referred to as a mega serial(in the Indian Context), so if you are planning to watch this drama, remember you are in for a long commitment. Considering the episode’s length, I assumed we were in for repeated storylines, overbearing drama, and dramatic moments. Still, let’s see if my assumptions are true.
The series seems to be a huge success; if you look at the view the drama got, you will understand why. This review will be based on the viewer’s reaction, not mine.
Plot Summary of Yargi
The show has two people fighting to ensure justice, a prosecutor and a lawyer, and if you have watched your share of legal dramas and movies, you will realize that they don’t usually get along.
In this show, Lawyer Ceylin and Prosecutor Ilgaz fight to bring justice. Though they have similar goals and both of them love and are passionate about what they do, the way, methods they use are different, which may cause conflicts.
They fight, clash, and are never on the same side, but destiny works in different ways, and the same destiny forces them together.
Ilgaz is faced with a problem, a woman’s dead body is found in a garage container, and his brother is the main suspect; if he does nothing, he will go to jail. He needs a lawyer to help him prove his brother’s innocence. Even though he hates to admit it, he knows Lawyer Ceylin can help him as much as their way of working clashes; Ceylin is a good lawyer.
So, he approaches Ceylin to help him with the case; taking on this case would mean struggle and trouble for Ceylin. And Ilgaz’s fight with Caylin may act as a hindrance to her agreeing to take the case on.
But that is not the only reason; spoiler alert, the dead woman is her younger sister, so she is personally involved in this case as much as Ilgaz.
The show has 52 episodes, and writing a summary in one article is impossible, so we will finish the review. Just know that is the basic plot, and the show develops various subplots based on this main plot.
Review of Yargi(The Judgement)
The first few episodes have twists and turn that ordinary humans can’t handle. Nevertheless, the twists are somewhat unexpected. But the plot twists are really dramatic.
Many users find the film’s mystery good, with some praising the drama’s creativity. It has also getting praised for its great acting and amazing onscreen chemistry (according to IMDb trivia, the lead couples were selected after the writer liked their onscreen chemistry in Love 101, Interesting isn’t)
A particular user even commented that the show raises Turkish production standards. Meanwhile, another viewer again complimented the drama’s unpredictability, especially because they felt the recent Turkish dramas were all getting predictable.
I will not criticize the action of the main characters, Ceylin and Ilgaz, because, as viewers pointed out, they have been through much in a short time. Their entire life shifted with one incident: Ceylin lost her sister, and Iglaz had to fight to prove his brother’s innocence.
The demons these characters are fighting are something many of us can’t even imagine. So, they will make decisions that may seem morally wrong or even borderline dumb. So, when watching the series, try to view the situation from the character’s perspective.
They also pointed out how the series focus on the emotional turmoil the characters go through and is not just focusing on their actions. We also see mixed reactions from the viewers regarding Pinar’s acting in the second episode. According to some, the acting was dramatic and exaggerated, while some say the acting matched the emotional breakdown the character had upon finding out her sister died.
If you want to laugh a little and let out a little chuckle occasionally, please find another drama because Yargi is heavy drama and not light-hearted. The plot summary reveals that the drama revolves around a murder, and trust me, the characters are always sad or disheartened.
Coming to the chemistry between the lead actors, I don’t think I even have to comment on that; they were cast because of their chemistry. And, the enemies-to-lovers chemistry does hit differently. Also, one more positive point, the series is said to have good cliffhangers, which I think is a plus point for everyone; not all shows can do that.
Our Verdict
If you are a big fan of drama, with family secrets, spying, investigations, and bone-chilling confrontation, watch this drama. I am not a big fan of long dramas; they are a huge emotional and time investment. I have watched Chinese dramas with long episodes, but many of the scenes are just filler in Chinese dramas, so I can skip a lot without missing anything. And the majority I have watched are Romances, so I am missing nothing even if I skipped.
Our Rating: ⭐ (4.1/5).
