WWE Extreme Rules 2022 will air on October 8th live from Philadelphia. Even though none of the men’s titles are up for grabs on the show, I like the lineup. Everything has been set up very effectively, with certain feuds lasting for a long now while others have recently received significant tv attention. While Roman Reigns’ absence from the show may have a slight negative impact on it, it does give other wrestlers a chance to get a little more attention. I love that each match has a stipulation match, each of which has a unique storyline.
I expect Bray Wyatt to make a comeback at this event. He’ll likely attack a babyface like McIntyre or possibly Edge since I think he’ll be playing a heel. The “White Rabbit” hints all seem to point toward Bray’s return. In order to bring Wyatt back on TV and build him up for a fight at Crown Jewel next month, I believe Extreme Rules is a great place to do that.
Here are all the WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Matches & Prediction:
Drew McIntyre VS. Karrion Kross (Strap Match)
Although I don’t dislike Karrion Kross as much as some people do, I didn’t foresee his return to the WWE roster to be as successful as it has been thus far. Kross is a good performer with a marketable appearance and excellent presentation, which Triple H has used to great effect thus far. He’s swiftly achieving that position thanks to his rivalry with Drew McIntyre, which has been a good way to establish him as a star on Smackdown. This gets us to the latest match.
Now, don’t get me wrong; this won’t be a contender for game of the night in any way. Both Kross and McIntyre make for entertaining in-ring performers, but I’ve never been a fan of strap matches because they severely restrict the match’s performers rather than adding anything to it. However, these two are able to get by it rather well. McIntyre could probably use the victory because he just suffered a devastating defeat to Reigns at Clash in the Castle PPV, but what would you do with him then?
There isn’t a really clear opponent for him further up the card, and he shouldn’t be confronting Reigns again anytime soon. On the other hand, a victory for Kross will strengthen his standing on Smackdown and position him to engage in a lot of babyface feuds. Expect Kross to win in this scenario, potentially using a Scarlett-ference or similar strategy.
Edge VS. Finn Balor (“I QUIT” Match)
Judgment Day vs The Edge & Rey Mysterio feud has had its highs and lows, but over the past several months, as the heel team has truly found its footing, it has been rolling along quite nicely. Judgment Day has benefited from the ongoing storytelling in this case, especially how Rhea Ripley managed to persuade Dominik Mysterio to side with them. However, despite the fact that they have frequently been winning on Raw, Edge and Rey have yet to defeat them in the ring on a pay-per-view. This leads into the “I Quit” match in which Edge and Finn Balor square off.
It should be obvious that we can expect a lot from these two guys in the ring; the real question is how the actions on the outside will affect the outcome. For obvious reasons, the babyface usually wins in “I Quit” matches, but WWE also enjoys playing with this tradition. That is likely to happen in this situation. The remainder of Judgment Day can start attacking Edge’s allies to play on his emotions and force him into saying the words for their advantage. Edge has a wide range of allies.
Rey Mysterio is the obvious pick, but other options include Beth Phoenix, AJ Styles, or perhaps someone else if WWE wants to include another party to prepare for a Survivor Series match. Even with that taint, a victory over Edge will help Balor grow and does nothing to weaken the star power of the Rated-R Superstar.
Imperium vs. The Brawling Brutes
When this preview goes up, Sheamus and Gunther will have repeated one of the best WWE matches of 2022 from Clash in the Castle on Smackdown. It has been the peak of an entertaining fight between these two factions, which is all building up to Saturday’s Donnybrook. I must say that I like this match’s name. The name of the stipulation match is the best I’ve heard in a long, and when used properly, I’m all for it.
With this out of the way, this multi-person match itself is expected to be a blast. With the exception of Ridge Holland, we have a lot of excellent competitors here, and a full-fledged brawl with lots of weapons is something that both sides should be able to take advantage of. In all honesty, I wouldn’t mind if this feud went on forever, but whether it ends here or not, you sort of need Imperium to win.
Gunther has a lot of momentum, but this faction is still relatively new, and the victory makes them a greater player, which will help prevent future disputes. Since Sheamus doesn’t require the victory and Butch & Holland are unaffected by their defeat against Imperium, I predict that Gunther and his team will win.
Rhea Ripley’s Could Interfere
It won’t be shocking, though, if WWE chooses to extend their feud by having the Hall of Famer defeat the former Universal Champion. In case you weren’t aware, a recent source stated that the creative has big plans for Balor here on the red brand. So, on Saturday, Finn Balor might win over his challenger. The creative team might have Beth Phoenix held hostage by Rhea Ripley, causing The Rated-R Superstar to end the fight.
This potential approach wouldn’t discredit The Master Manipulator by providing a plausible justification for his loss. It would also build the groundwork for the aforementioned names to compete as a major tag team at Crown Jewel.
Bianca Belair VS. Bayley (WWE Raw Women’s Championship Ladder Match)
As of this writing, the card only has two title matches, both of which are for the Women’s Championships under the main roster. First up is a ladder match between Bianca Belair and Bayley for Belair’s Raw Women’s Title. Compared to her Smackdown Women’s Title tenure, which was infamously brought to an end by Becky Lynch’s victory at SummerSlam 2021, Belair’s reign with the championship has been significantly more successful.
Since she has been reigning for little over six months, she has established herself as a strong champion, and losing the title would not appear to be the end of her. Bayley undoubtedly appears like a good choice to replace her as the leader among the members of the roster who are currently in action. Since their comeback at SummerSlam, Bayley and Damage CTRL have been on fire, and the Ladder Match would permit the title change without requiring Belair to suffer a clean defeat.
Despite this, I don’t believe WWE is prepared to take the title from the champion. Bayley is given equal protection under the clause, especially with Bliss and Asuka around to act as backup. I could be completely wrong, but I see them delaying Bayley winning the championship till a bigger PPV than Extreme Rules. Belair should be able to retain the title because of all the mayhem that happened throughout the fight, which will prolong their ongoing feud.
Ronda Rousey vs. Liv Morgan (WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship Extreme Rules Match)
While Bianca Belair’s current title reign has solidified her as a fully believable champion, Liv Morgan’s credibility is somewhat more questionable. Except for the conclusion of her match with Rousey at SummerSlam, I don’t think she has had a bad reign thus far. She has only held the title for around three months, and she has only faced Rouse and Baszler in title defenses. Although she gained a lot from her bout with Baszler at Clash of the Castle, she is now facing Rousey for the championship in the PPV’s championship match at Extreme Rules.
Actually, this is the show’s pick in which I am least sure. A stealthy win would actually offer Morgan a shot to be a heel champion, which has been hinted at recently. On the other hand, it appears that WWE has had so many Morgan just squeeze past Rousey, and a clean(ish) victory would do fantastic things for her. On the other side, WWE obviously has Rousey in mind for WrestleMania and beyond, and it seems like now would be the moment to do it if she’s about to win the title.
The WWE has a habit of giving talent less memorable and brief title runs before coming back to them later and giving them the opportunity to really shine, so a loss for Morgan probably barely kills her. I could totally imagine either outcome happening in this case, but I’m going to lean toward the idea that the company wants a big ending scene with a prominent superstar holding a title up. That’s Rousey in this case, and I simply have a hunch that’s why we got the title change.
Liv is a significant underdog going into the fight. Many people think that Rousey will likely leave Extreme Rules as the champion, given how WWE has scripted her over the past several weeks. The creative team may, however, surprise the audience by having Morgan defeat The Rowdy One. It should be noted that Charlotte Flair is allegedly planning to return soon. On Saturday, WWE might send The Queen back to spoil Rousey’s match with Morgan. By serving as a suitable justification for the UFC legend’s defeat, this would not derail the latter’s momentum.
Matt Riddle VS. Seth “FREAKIN” Rollins (FIGHT PIT Match)
It’s not a massive surprise to see Triple H introduce The Fight Pit to the big stage for Extreme Rules because it was one of the most creative and successful concepts in NXT. That is especially true given that it was part of one of them; it is a requirement that fits the former UFC fighter’s past. Riddle lost his very first Fight Pit match to Timothy Thatcher, but his chances are higher this time. Riddle and Rollins have been at odds for a while, and while Riddle has already had his moments, he hasn’t yet completely overcome his hatred.
To establish him properly, that just really needs to change, and I believe that does so in this case. Although a victory for Rollins might push him into Bloodline-challenging area, a defeat wouldn’t affect him at all, and Riddle would be able to put a stop to this rivalry at the ideal time with a victory. In light of the MMA undertones of the contest, bringing in Daniel Cormier as a special guest referee makes sense since he can stop Rollins from acting like a heel. Although Riddle should eventually win, this has the potential to be the match of the night.
Brock Lesnar Could Return To WWE at Extreme Rules
There is no doubting the extensive history between Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar. At UFC 226, the two almost exchanged blows. Brock Lesnar might make a comeback at Extreme Rules since the latter is set to serve as the special match referee on Saturday Night.
Cormier might support Rollins, but the creative staff might have Lesnar appear and confront him. The former WWE Champion might destroy Cormier, giving The Original Bro the advantage over his opponent. The two UFC Legends may now face off in a potential match at Crown Jewel 2022 as a result of this.
Bray Wyatt Could Returns To WWE at Extreme Rules
It’s possible that Bray Wyatt could make his much-anticipated return at WWE Extreme Rules. Everyone will eagerly anticipate the show, as the White Rabbit hints have already hinted to.
When Wyatt makes his rumored comeback, he might fit into several different storylines. The possibilities are endless for The Eater of Worlds, from getting back together with Alexa Bliss to beating Matt Riddle in an effort to call Randy Orton out. The White Rabbit mystery has been loved by the fans, and we hope the conclusion occurs this Saturday.
