Wonderful World Episode 1 Recap
In the first episode of Wonderful World, the show begins with a tense moment as Sun-Yool appears to be driving straight at Soo-Hyun. This raises questions about their relationship and why he wants to harm her.
But in the middle of all this, we get to see glimpses of Soo Hyun and Sun Yool’s past. The scenes hint that they might have a strong connection because of something bad they went through together. Wonderful World then showcases a time where Soo-Hyun was a successful writer and had a great life with her job & family.
Despite past struggles with miscarriages, she finally has a child, and life seems perfect, although her husband is grappling with anxiety or depression after leaving his journalism career. Meanwhile, Soo-Hyun’s devoted sister, Yoo-Ri, serves as her manager, adding another layer to their familial dynamics.
Soo-Hyun’s travel plans take an unexpected turn when she hears that her son is sick. After rushing home, she finds her husband and child playing outside. However, while talking to her husband, Soo Hyun’s son wanders onto the busy street.
Kwon Ji-Woong, after drinking with a congressman, is abruptly summoned for urgent matters and ends up driving the car. Meanwhile, Soo-Hyun and her husband frantically search for their missing son but only discover one of his shoes in an alley.
As night falls, the police aren’t much help, which leaves Soo-Hyun feeling even more upset. Things take a turn for the worse when she finds an injured child in the park, who turns out to be Geon-Woo. Rushed to the hospital, the doctors deliver terrible news: it’s too late to save him. Soo-Hyun has to say goodbye to her son, who has a painful death.
The doctor explains that if Geon-Woo had reached the hospital sooner, he might have survived. Ji-Woong left him in a remote area, mistakenly thinking he wasn’t breathing.
Soo-Hyun is questioned about whether she closed the front gate, but she isn’t able to recall anything. During the court hearing, Ji-Woong’s lawyer blames Soo-Hyun for being a negligent parent. Despite this, Ji-Woong is declared not guilty, which shocks Geon-Woo’s parents.
At the end of Wonderful World episode 1, Soo-Hyun confronts Ji-Woong, seeking an apology for her son’s death, but he callously refuses and insults her instead. Frustrated and angered by his lack of remorse, Soo-Hyun impulsively drives her car towards him.
Who Is Sun Yool & How Is He Connected to Soo Hyun?
In the episode, we only catch a glimpse of Sun Yool, but it’s evident he harbors a grudge against Eun Soo Hyun. She was once a popular but careless author, and it’s possible she crossed paths with him during her heyday.
Given that she drives her car at a cold congressman, Sun Yool might have ties to him, possibly as his son seeking revenge for his death. Wonderful World kicks off with a suspenseful vibe, leaving viewers eager for more twists and turns in the upcoming episodes.
