Ned, Down Under, and Little Monster’s director Abe Forsythe is a man of many talents who likes to keep himself busy. After all, the apple doesn’t fall from the tree. His dad, Drew Forsythe, also works a lot in the industry. Abe’s latest production, Wolf Like Me, an Australian production distributed both by Stan and Peacock, has two seasons and some traction. But where is “Wolf Like Me” filmed?
For those not familiar with the series, it is a bit of a gender-bender show in which a single dad widower in Australia with his 11-year-old daughter, both of whom are recovering from the recent passing of their wife and mother whose untimely death in a car crash left them mourning.
Across the show, we see how a woman manages to help the girl with her mourning process. We see how the dad, named Gary, and this woman named Mary forge an emotional, romantic bond that has many complex sides. But let us change the topic and check out several of the places where Abe Forsythe and his cast and crew decided to film this production.
Wolf Like Me Filming Locations
Wolf Like Me is a production entirely shot and developed in Australia. The plotline explains how, after the death of Gary’s wife, he and his daughter relocate to Australia to start a new life away from everything, from everybody, in a region with nice outdoors to hit the reset button, mourn, pick up the pieces, and move on.
Director and producer Abe Forsythe chose places like New South Wales and Sydney to bring to life the show. These locations were not chosen randomly; they are characters of their own because of the ambiance, exuberance, and vastness of what we see in this production.
The main production for the debut season kicked off in April 2021 and ended in July 2021, right in the wake of the COVID pandemic, and its severe restrictions for all aspects of economic activity, including filming. Fun fact: Unlike other productions, this one wasn’t put on halt because someone got sick.
As such, let’s take a trip down to Australia to check out where was Wolf Like Me filmed in detail.
New South Wales
New South Wales is a vast region in the southeast portion of the island continent of Australia. When it comes to keeping the “real” in Australia, New South Wales is a perfect location chosen by Forsythe and his team because it is a region full of different things, including the Blue Mountains, which host Mount Wilson, the Southern Highlands, The Snowy Mountains, as well as hosting the capital of the state and most populous city, Sydney.
Sydney
Sydney is the capital of New South Wales. It was the city that hosted the year 2000 Olympic Games; it is Australia’s most populous city, a cultural hub, and a tourist attraction on its own. With architectural masterpieces like its Opera House, this city has also been the place where filmmakers have made iconic cultural masterpieces like “The Matrix”; it is where Marvel Studios shot “Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings” and where they shot the recent iteration of The Great Gatsby.
Forsythe chose the suburbs of Sydney for exterior and interior shots, particularly around the areas of Ashbury and Ashfield, which are situated west of the metropolitan district of Sydney.
Furthermore, Sydney is one of the Outback’s most frequented filming locations for many directors and producers. The city offers lots of incentives for production companies to take their businesses there, which bolsters the local economy. The government has many arrangements with Sydney’s schools and colleges that have arts and film programs, and they engage with incentives for filmmakers wishing to shoot there.
Just for Wolf Like Me, a production of that size created 160 direct local jobs with a direct impact on the economy for TV and filmmaking industry professionals. Since the show is mainly an Aussie production, it makes total sense to use local talent to bring it to life.
