Netflix has released a new look at THE ONE PIECE, the upcoming anime series that will retell Monkey D. Luffy’s adventure from the beginning. Produced by WIT Studio, the new adaptation will return to the East Blue Saga and offer a different approach from Toei Animation’s long-running One Piece anime.
The project is not a continuation or reboot of the existing weekly anime. Instead, THE ONE PIECE will start again from Chapter 1 of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, giving Netflix and WIT Studio the opportunity to present the early story with a modern visual style and a much shorter episode count. According to Netflix, the first season will adapt approximately the manga’s first 50 chapters across seven episodes, with a total runtime of around 300 minutes.
THE ONE PIECE Is Changing the Way East Blue Is Adapted
The biggest difference between THE ONE PIECE and the original anime is its compact release format. All seven episodes of the first season are scheduled to arrive together on Netflix in February 2027, covering Luffy’s journey through the East Blue Saga up to his encounter with Sanji.
The official Netflix Media Center describes the series as a new adaptation that begins with the manga’s first chapter. WIT Studio is handling the animation, with Masashi Koizuka directing and Taku Kishimoto overseeing series composition. The creative team also includes Attack on Titan and Spy x Family veterans, bringing a new production style to one of anime’s most famous stories.

Koizuka previously explained the creative direction in an interview, saying,
“We wanted to go into it as a naval action-adventure story.”
He added that the studio wanted the ocean to feel “awe-inspiring” and reflect the sense of discovery that defines Luffy’s journey.
A New Entry Point for One Piece Fans
With the original One Piece anime running for more than 25 years and containing over 1,000 episodes, THE ONE PIECE could provide a more accessible way for new viewers to experience the story. Longtime fans, meanwhile, will get to see familiar East Blue characters and locations through WIT Studio’s new interpretation.
The new series is also separate from Netflix’s live-action One Piece, which has continued expanding alongside the anime project. With multiple versions of Luffy’s story now available, Netflix is positioning THE ONE PIECE as another major entry point into Oda’s pirate world.
The latest artwork gives fans another preview of the project’s visual direction, but the biggest question remains: how WIT Studio will reshape one of anime’s most beloved opening arcs into just seven episodes.
