Wicked successfully ran in theaters, earning $472 million in the United States and $254 million in other countries. Now that its time in theaters is ending, there is exciting news for fans. Universal Pictures has confirmed that Wicked will be available on Peacock starting March 21.
This comes almost exactly four months after its theater release. Wicked recently completed its 12th weekend in theaters, bringing in only $600,000. Since the film has already been available on digital platforms for over a month, this is the perfect time for it to arrive on streaming.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande play the lead roles of Elphaba and Glinda. The film also stars Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum.
Wicked finally arrived in theaters on November 22, releasing on the same day as Gladiator 2. Fans compared this to the ‘Barbenheimer’ trend and called it ‘Glicked.’ However, Jon M. Chu’s musical outperformed Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel.
Wicked opened with $112 million at the box office, while Gladiator 2 made only $55 million. Even though Moana 2 took the top spot during the next three weekends, Wicked kept earning impressive numbers. It also performed better than Kraven the Hunter and The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Wicked is now set to end its time in theaters as the highest-grossing stage adaptation ever. It also ranks among the top three highest-grossing films of 2024 in the United States.
