Want to know the reason why Moral Orel got canceled? This Adult Swim show is currently making headlines as it is not going to make its comeback. No doubt, it is now addressed as one of the most “heartbreaking” cartoons. However, while Moral Orel aired, the sitcom became quite prominent. It later paved the way for other sitcoms, including Rick and Morty.
The creator of Moral Orel, Stamatopoulos, finally opened up about how certain important topics were showcased rarely in the animation. Those include- child abuse, alcoholism, dysfunction in the family, depression, anxiety, etc. The sitcom was based on Orel Puppington, a young boy whose family desperately imparted their religious beliefs upon him. But, problems surfaced when Orel used to misunderstand them.
Moral Orel premiered back in 2005. The animated show ran its course for three years. It was also reportedly not suitable for young kids. They wouldn’t appreciate the sophistication of the humor, though. Well, that was possibly one of the other major reasons why Moral Orel got canceled after three seasons in 2008. But the question is- why?

So, the major reason why Moral Orel got canceled in 2008 was because of its “depressing” nature. As mentioned already, the show turned out to be heartbreaking to most people. Some people blamed the “Alone” episode from Season 3 for the cancellation, taking the discussion to different social media platforms.
The executive of the Adult Swim network, Mike Lazzo, canceled Moral Orel because of how depressing it felt to him. In other words, he didn’t support the dark turn of Moral Orel, made since Season 2. When asked, the creator shared that later the title of the show could have changed to Moralton. Also, Dino added that he and the core team planned to focus on people living in the town. So, that would help in changing the entire “depressing” issue of the show.
We saw Orel, being the naive boy who always wanted to be good and also so good for others. However, some of his started becoming depressing and disturbing, and no one had real support. Like what? Once, his mother told him that God hates waste. Knowing this, Orel drank his urine. It’s always good to help poor people.
Following this, Orel ended up helping a crack dealer by buying some drugs. There used to be many such instances that would end up giving the wrong impact on kids in reality. On the other hand, it was evident that Orel didn’t get much guidance from his parents, and that was more depressing.
One of the most severe darkness about Moral Orel was the individuality of each of the characters. Since Orel’s family was dysfunctional, everybody had their respective burdens, which were saddening again. That was possibly another reason why the show got turned down.
No wonder some lost hope to find hope and happiness in Moral Orel. This was because each of the jokes had a harsh truth behind it.
On the other hand, some Moral Orel fans wanted it back. Despite having “edgy” content, they found the dark nature of the show unique. They reportedly fell in love with Orel’s character. A petition was even made where people wanted it back, as they stated that Moral Orel was criminally underrated and canceled.
Nothing in this world is perfect. Imperfection is constant in everything, and Moral Orel had something similar behind it. Even though the cancelation of the animated show partly made sense, for the sake of kids being the audience. But Dino didn’t get the chance to finish the story, especially to showcase the family to be the real one. It was reportedly very much “unfair” to many.
