Infinity Train made its debut on Cartoon Network in 2019 and has created a place for itself among other animated series. But the series was canceled in late 2021, shocking its avid viewers.
What the fans were not able to understand was the reason behind its cancellation. So if you are among those fans, read on, as we will reveal the real reason behind Infinity Train getting canceled.
Each car on the train is a new realm with its own rules, and every prisoner has a shining number on their hand. As we all know, this is how the program began.
We first met a girl who was drawn into the journey against her will. She spends the first season investigating the train and attempting to figure out why she’s there because, like most traveling occupants, she only wants to get home.
While the final season was quite different, let’s recap the show before learning about the story behind its cancellation.

Recap of the Infinity Train
We see Min-Gi working at a nearby chain restaurant and getting ready for college in season 4. The last season saw Ryan secure a gig in New York and travel home to convince Min-Gi to accompany him.
Then, soon after a disagreement, they find themselves boarding the train dressed alike in gray jumpsuits with matching blinking numbers on their hands. Then we see two passengers boarding at the same moment with the same number.
New passengers awaken on the train, identify the difficulties in their lives that they must resolve, and reduce their numbers to zero by dealing with those concerns, all while navigating the railway’s eccentric pocket-dimension cars, each of which has a specific goal in mind.
Ryan, Min-Gi, and Kez do have their fair share of bizarre adventures, such as feeding a big, shrieking newborn pig voiced by J.K. Simmons, but compared to prior seasons, the commuter rail doesn’t get probed nearly as much. Instead, the two pals are engaged in the main conflict.
The first episode depicts Ryan and Min-Gi’s connection, literally beginning from the day they were born. Both friends are loyal to one another, yet their disagreement is caused by their decisions.
Ryan feels hurt when Min-Gi gives up his goals to appease his parents. Ryan rushes into situations without stopping to contemplate the consequences, which Min-Gi views as careless and inconsiderate.
To mend their friendship, Min-Gi, and Ryan must face unpleasant truths and have challenging discussions. As usual, the train pushes the lads’ issues to the surface by forcing Kez to face her issues.
The loose ends from past seasons’ characters and stories were not resolved in the season 4 finale. However, season 4 serves as an appropriate climax to the Infinity Train tale because it finishes without raising any new issues or leaving readers hanging on cliffhangers.
Why did Infinity Train get canceled?
According to the author of Infinity Train, Owen Dennis, Cartoon Network turned down a finished script for an Infinity Train Book 5 movie because it was centered on the adult character Amelia and lacked a “child entry point.”
Many Infinity Train enthusiasts were upset and perplexed by the show’s cancellation and the reason behind it. Samurai Jack and Regular Show are only a couple of the adult-themed episodes that Cartoon Network has produced over the years.
If Infinity Train Book 5 was rejected by the current management, one has to wonder if similar shows would have been turned down today. Sadly, it appears like Cartoon Network and the larger animation business are moving away from more driven all-ages TV programs, as evidenced by the cancellation of Infinity Train.
It was also revealed that Cartoon Network is now only interested in “strictly comedy” series. This appears to be a significant change from the genre-defying content that helped the network succeed in the 2010s.
The trend of emotionally nuanced comedy-adventure storytelling was being carried on by Infinity Train, but it appears Cartoon Network has lost interest in it.
Is the Infinity Train coming back?
So far, we have not yet received confirmation on the show’s renewal for a fifth season. Let’s all hope we get to see another season of the show. But the chances of that are quite meager.
