Steven Adler has to be one of the most known music artists out there right now. Even though he has stopped playing right now, fans remember him as the drummer for the rock band Guns N’ Roses. He achieved huge success with this band in the later 80s.
Well, just when his career was going well, he was fired from the band. After that, he joined and changed a few bands here and there, but none earned him the fame Guns N’ Roses did at that point.
Steve was born in Beverly Hills, California, and started his passion for drums at just 12 years of age. He joined Guns N’ Roses in 1985. The group then had a superhit debut album called Appetite for Destruction. To date, it is one of the best-sold albums of all time.
Adler also released three solo albums after his career with the band was over. He released an album called Adler in 1996, then Adler’s Appetite in 2005, and Live at Whisky in 2012. He even formed his own band in 2005 and has gone on many tours with the group.
While talking about his drug addiction, Steve revealed that he has been sober since 2008 and never used any substances since. After his recovery and the whole relapse journey, Steve even came in contact with his older bandmates from Guns and Roses. They reconciled and performed on stage together a few times.
Along with that, he has been a popular figure in the television industry as well. The man has gone on various shows such as Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew as well as Sober House, which all focus on a rehab theme. All these years, Adler has been a hugely talented artist and drummer.
He has overcome his drug addiction and personal tragedies in life. Despite that, he continued to make music and inspire so many people with his lyrics. He has also helped establish some channels through which he could help those who are struggling with addiction themselves.
Why Did Steve Adler Leave Guns N’ Roses?
Steve Adler was actually fired from Guns N’ Roses back in 1990. It was all because of his addiction to heroin and other substances. The band had been struggling with his addiction for quite a few years at that point and could not continue any longer with him on the team. His addiction was hindering his ability to perform as a drummer.
There were various events that acted as the 13th reason for his bandmates, such as how he would not show up for rehearsals and even shows. He would even get hospitalized often because of his drug-related health issues and maybe overdosing sometimes.
While talking about the same, Axl Rose, the lead singer of the band, revealed that they tried to help Adler a lot during this tough time so that he could overcome his addiction. But at that point, he was already in too deep with his love for drugs that it was taking a huge toll on the group’s performance.
Steve Adler and His Relation With The Band Mates
In the end, things were getting too out of control, and something had to be done about it. Thus, Axl decided to make a tough decision and cut Adler loose because of the whole situation. It was also revealed later in the years that Adler had tried to stab himself several times along with self-harm in various ways, which might have been triggering for some fans. The band was unable to continue with him as a member. He was thus let go from Guns N’ Roses in 1990, and Natt Sorum replaced him as a drummer.
Obviously, this was a huge moment in the music industry while the band was at the peak of its popularity. Steve’s absence did not go unnoticed from their later albums and music because he was a part of the band’s identity, and obviously, it got affected when he was removed as a member.
Well, the band took the blow but went on to create even higher success and new music for the fans in the 90s. It took Adler years to finally take control of his life and break free from the cycle of drugs. The artist currently claims to be sober since 2008, and it is great news for the fans who have always supported him.
