One of the most famous medical dramas, “House,” aired nearly two decades ago. The show revolved around Hugh Laurie’s Gregory House, the show’s title character, who worked with his team to solve intriguing medical mysteries in the instantly popular series. The series successfully set its suspenseful tone in the pilot episode, which it followed throughout a decade till it came to an end.
The most famous ship of House, Dr. Lisa Cuddy, and Dr. House had their share of on-and-off romance on Television. At the end of Season 7 of House, Dr. Lisa left the show, breaking the onscreen chemistry with Dr. House.
Lisa’s departure from House’s life and Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital made perfect sense from the perspective of the character, but what was the main reason behind Lisa Edelstein’s departure from the show?
Who Was Dr. Lisa Cuddy on Dr. House?
Cuddy was the one who was responsible for serving as the counterpart to the opioid piata. Cuddy held a position of responsibility as the Dean of Medicine. She was the one factor that held everyone together. It was like the glue that stuck all the pieces of the hospital together.
The character had all the qualities needed- she was tough, one who would never bow down or budge to anything that was thrown at her, and she would anticipate all the troubles well in advance. It was confusing from a narrative point of view when Cuddy bolted at the season 7 Conclusion.
Why did Lisa Edelstein leave the show?
A long decade has passed since Lisa Edelstein’s exit from the House. The actress issued a statement when she was leaving the show that she is moving forward in her life with excitement for new opportunities. She also said about the character that she had loved playing the character for almost seven years.
Fans still mourn her exit from the show, and everyone, including fans and media, believe her presence was what made the show so successful in the first place. Even the show makers, the director, and the producer believe that Lisa’s exit proved to be detrimental to the show’s popularity and hampered its growth big time.
This was already a major setback for the show when another setback plagued the show. The show was facing several budget cuts that meant it had to compromise on certain aspects of the ends were to meet. This meant that the House was to potentially suffer more popularity loss. The serious cuts made by the network proved detrimental to the prospects of the show.
The majority of the performers’ contracts were renewed for Season 7 of the House television series. Additionally, the network wished to rehire the performers at a wage reduction. The fans went into a frenzy when Edelstein, of course, refused, and her character was written out. Surprisingly, Edelstein was never seen on the show again, not even at the end of the season.
The producer Katie Jacobs too mourned at the expense cut of the show and said that it was unfortunate and disheartening at the same time that something that they had been trying to avoid for seven seasons had finally occurred.
What happened to Lisa after the show?
Edelstein was able to back many recurring roles in as many as seven different TV shows. She also made a winking appearance on Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital in a move that was characteristically odd.
In spite of her departure, the fans wished her to return as she left a mark on the show. It was more than a decade since she was part of this medical drama. However, the fans were disheartened since she didn’t even make the cameo in the series finale.
