Jennifer Morrison, one of the House’s original cast members, left the show in the sixth season in 2009. Dr. Allison Cameron, played by Jennifer, divorced Dr. Robert Chase due to marital differences in the show, which created a way for Jennifer’s exit. However, it was shocking for her fans and herself, too.
Actor Jesse Spence, who played Dr. Robert Chase, believed House would resemble General Hospital. However, he found how wrong he was after reading the script. The medical drama House focuses on Dr. Gregory House, a medical genius dependent on pain medications.
Dr. Gregory House leads a team of doctors at the fictional Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH), New Jersey. His original team disbanded at the end of the third season. Some characters die, while some reappear as guests.
Why Did Jennifer Morrison Leave House?
Jennifer Morrison left House because her character was reportedly written out of the series. David Shore tried to take her character as far as he could. However, he reached a point where her character could not stand out of the crowd.
Jennifer appeared in an interview with Entertainment Weekly after quitting the show but could not reveal a related reason because she claimed she was unaware of what happened behind the scenes. She said that she would not have left the series on her own.
There were talks about making Cameron one of the leading characters after spending the fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons in a supporting role, but the idea was put down. Jennifer was given a winter break after the sixth season and asked to appear in the first three episodes in the seventh. However, she did not return in the seventh season.
Fortunately, Jennifer’s character, Dr. Allison Cameron, was not killed off like Kal Penn’s character, Kutner. Cameron’s husband, Dr. Robert Chase (played by Jesse Spencer), continued in the series till it ended in 2012. He became the longest-serving member of the original characters. Thus, divorcing them was the best option for Cameron’s exit.
However, the creator of House, David Shore, planned to surprise the fans by reintegrating Cameron and other former characters into the team in an effective way, at least temporarily.
Thus, after appearing in the final episode of Season 6, ‘Teamwork, ’ she appeared in the eighth season in an episode titled ‘Lockdown’ to conclude her story. Further, she also appeared in the series finale, ‘Everyone Dies,’ in 2012.
It is how the producers allowed Cameron to return for some guest appearances. Dr. Allison Cameron (played by Jennifer) was a member of House’s diagnostic teams for the first three seasons. She served as the backrunner for the last three seasons, and her tenure in the series came to an end after a divorce.
After Leaving House
Jennifer was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2009. She appeared in a few print advertisements, commercials, a Sports Illustrated magazine cover, and nine films. She made only guest appearances in five television series before joining as a leading character in House.

She played Winona Kirk, Kirk’s mother, in Star Trek (2009), where she and other actors like her only handled the script of their scenes because the production team wanted to enforce high security around the film.
Some actors in Star Trek read their scripts with a security guard around them. Thus, it was confidential. However, let us not dive into the reason to follow the scope of the article.
Jennifer only gave her voice to Winona Kirk in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). Her other notable work includes voicing for Selina Kyle / Catwoman in the superhero animated film Batman: Hush (2019). She directed nine films such as Warning Labesl, Sun Dogs, Dr. Death, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, and more.
