Netflix shows Dahmer – The Jeffery Dahmer Story is fictional storytelling of a psychopath, Jeffery’s life, and his doings. The show portrays everything from his boyhood to evolving into an infamous serial killer who doped, killed, raped, and mutilated 17 bodies of boys to men from 1978 to 1991.
After the series, many fans and crime enthusiasts are trying to uncover details about Jeffery and if the depiction of his life is fabricated or not. Questions about his current state and how David Dahmer, his brother, was affected because of Jeffery’s crimes. In the show’s fourth episode, Jeffery Dahmer’s enrollment in the US army was shown, raising many questions among enthusiasts about whether it was real or fabricated.
Did Jeffery Really Serve In The Army?
Jeffery killed Steven Hicks, his first victim, 18 years old. After killing him, he registered at Ohio State University, and just after one semester, he was expelled. Lionel Dahmer, his father, motivated him to get into the military as a resource for college. He worked as a medic in the military at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, as per Military.com. Jeffery was stationed with the 22nd Battalion and performed as a combat medic.
Why Did Dahmer Get Kick Out Of The Army?
He was an alcoholic, and he was deemed unfit and unstable for his military service, as he began drinking in his teenage years. In March 1981, Jeffery had a debriefing in Fort Jackson. There he was offered a plane ticket to wherever he wanted to go, so he came to Miami and stayed for a few months before getting a job in a delicatessen. As per Newsweek, he was thrown out of the hotel he was staying in because he did not pay the rent.
Then he went back to Lionel, his father, and Shari, his stepmother, in Ohio. But after two weeks, he was arrested because of his drunken state and misconduct. According to Newsweek, he also received a $60 fine and a 10-day jail sentence. After returning from jail, he stayed with Catherine Dahmer, his grandmother, in West Allis. At Milwaukee Blood Center, he became a phlebotomist and drew blood from patients’ veins.
Ten months later, he was released from the blood center, then he began working at Milwaukee Ambrosia Chocolate Factory.
In 1991, Jeffery told police that his fantasies about killing, which he had since he was 18 came back when he left the army and came to Milwaukee he also added that he did not kill anyone until early 1985, he started killing when he discovered gay bars.
How Long Did Jeffery Dahmer Serve In The Army?
Jeffery served for around 2 years in the army, from 1979 to 1981. He was honorably released from his duties in the military.
The German police revisited all the unidentified missing cases of murders of men after the arrest of Jeffery in 1991. During that time, the German police did not find any connections to Jeffery and the missing men in Germany.
Jeffery Assaulted Two Men Sexually In The Military
At some point during his service, he was performing as a medic with 20-year-old Preston Davis. Davis noticed that Jeffery was racist and got out of control once he started drinking. Davis even said Jeffery would flex about the victim he killed before coming into the military. He also told Jeffery would get so drunk in the barracks that he openly said he killed a man in Ohio.
According to a story on Protect Our Defenders, Jeffery and Preston worked together from 5th October to 25th October 1959. Protect Our Defenders is a human rights organization that is trying to end racism and sexual misconduct in the military. Preston told that Jeffery, including penetration, sexually assaulted him. He also said that he was drugged as he did not have a clear memory and had a very little collection of the event. Another man was Capshaw, and he claimed that Jeffery drugged him and raped him eight to ten times.
