Boy George always gives some things to the fans to talk about. The same was the case when he appeared in Real Housewives, and the same has been the fact for his past as well. He was also involved in a scandal. To make it worse, he was sent to prison.
Naturally, the songwriter & singer made the heads turn during his time as a judge on the music reality show The Voice. But the headlines that appeared were negative and discouraging.
This became specifically true when we walked out in an audition. Daniel Shaw, a contestant, hit all the notes in his blind auditions, which was liked by all the judges, and made their chairs turn.
But it turns out Boy George was not happy with the response given by Shaw at the end of the musical performance. After that, he left the stage and walked off.
Of course, the viewers and the show’s fans did not like Boy George’s behavior, and the artist also was not happy with what went down. Let’s see what went down.
A Complete Misunderstanding
Daniel Shaw passed his audition with flying colors on The Voice. All four judges turned their chairs and showed interest in the singer, and we’re looking forward to working with Daniel.
But things escalated quickly just after a question. Boy George asked Daniel if he played guitar. The response was not impressive enough for George. Shaw responded by saying that he can play a guitar, but no one actually cares if he plays guitar.
This response did not sit well with Boy George. He quickly changed his tone and asked Shaw to select another team. George repeated his no one cares line and said that he should join Delta’s team.
He said that it was a weird statement to make. But things got even more tangled from here. Boy George got off his chair and left the stage, describing the whole moment as rude.
Whatever happened was not ideal as a judge. He admitted that all of it happened because of a misunderstanding.
He said he completely misunderstood the statement made by Shaw, got in the flow, and left the stage. He added that he is fine now but is feeling a little embarrassed.
He said that he was cool, just a little annoyed. He also stated that he would go someplace where he won’t feel embarrassed. He must get tied to his seat at the end of his statement.
He had many no’s and had a diva moment. Many times, one just cares more than he should, and it is not a bad thing. As per fans, caring too much made it look harsh and out of the line.
Peak viewership, but the fans did not like his actions.
All this drama gained more than 3 million views on YouTube. As always, Boy George’s behavior did not sit well with the fans.
If you look at the comment section of the viral video, many fans of the show stated that what other things George could have said or done to help the young performer on the stage. One viewer wrote that Shaw’s voice is melodious and filled with emotions.
If Boy George actually cared about him not playing the guitar, then he should have provided him with a guitar and asked him to sing a song while playing a guitar alongside it.
In this manner, it would’ve given Shaw a boost in confidence about his guitar playing skills and indicated to him that he can sing alongside any instrument that he wants.
Other viewers were thanking Boy George’s backlash, as it gave Shaw another opportunity to sing a song. He said that he thanked George for abruptly leaving the stage, as it gave Shaw a new opportunity to shine more with his second performance.
Most of the comments stated that Boy George took Shaw’s comments the wrong way and completely overreacted. On the other hand, Shaw had an opposite response, an overreaction to whatever happened.
Contestant Daniel Shaw looked at everything passively
Daniel hardly made any official comment on the whole fiasco. He did not have any type of comments for any interviews and simply saw things as they were, i.e., Boy George walking out of the show.
As for Boy George, he did not come back to judge the next season of The Voice. It is believed that he was let go by the shower runners, but he has his own story about why it happened.
