The most exhilarating and one of the biggest hit musicals, Mamma Mia! is described as a “sheer enjoyability, a 5-star experience” by the Daily Mail and not without reason. The 6th longest-running musical in West End history, Mamma Mia!, premiered in the famous London West End about 23 years ago and still manages to find a place in its viewers’ hearts.
It’s written by a British playwright, Catherine Johnson, and is reported to have over 65 million viewers to date, which is a huge achievement for a musical.
Mamma Mia! The musical is a long show that runs for around 2 hours and 35 minutes, including 15-minute intervals. Ever since its debut in 1999, it has grossed $4 billion worldwide, making it a huge hit everywhere, in homes and foreign lands.
In 2008, a film adaptation of Mamma Mia! starring several famous actors was also released. This musical comedy film, featuring Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, was 1 hour and 48 minutes long, following Sophie and her questions about her father.
Synopsis
Fans have always loved this musical, regardless of the format, so when the Broadway shows closed on 12th September 2015, it was quite sad to let it go. After running for almost 14 years, Mamma Mia! was the 9th longest-running show in Broadway history.
The musical Mamma Mia! is set on a Greek island and tells a heartfelt tale of love, identity, and friendship using songs from ABBA, a Swedish pop supergroup formed in Stockholm in 1972. In the musical, Sophie is on a quest to learn about her father.
Since she has never known the man, her choices and decisions shockingly bring her mother face to face with three different men from her past. What’s more shocking is Sophie’s mom encounters them all on the eve of a dreamy wedding nobody will ever forget.
