The Harry Potter megastar, Daniel Radcliffe, plays as a lawyer in The Woman in Black. He is a lawyer who has recently lost his wife and is in mourning.
He is sent to a remote village to take care of deceased eccentric affairs. It becomes evident that the villagers are keeping secrets from him.
He learns that the house of his late client is haunted by the spirit of a lady who is searching for someone or something that she lost, and no one is safe from her anger.
The movie has good jump scares, which will keep the audience entertained. Those who have watched the movie keep questioning about the filming locations. In this article, we will take a look at the same.
Where was the movie shot?
The Woman In Black was Daniel Radcliffe’s first movie after Harry Potter. The haunted house shown in the movie is in Northamptonshire, England.
The exterior shot of the movie was filmed in Cotterstock Hall, close to the Oundle Village. The interior scenes were filmed in Pinewood Studios.
The production crew searched for many locations across the UK for Eel March home. After the confirmation of Cotterstock, the crew took 4 days to complete the whole setup and the next three days to film the scenes.
They also had a rain machine for the gloomy effect that we often see in movie scenes. But those effects were all authentic because, at the time of the shoot, it was naturally raining.
James Watkins Interview
He said they were there for three days in the summer. For a haunted movie, it is very important to get the location of the movie in point. The location they chose had a real vibe and looked like it had eyes, which helped to create the dreaded atmosphere.
The only problem though was the house was in too good shape. They had to change a lot of things to make it look spooky.
Daniel Radcliffe’s comments in the filming house
He said Cotterstock Hall is a grand building with a gothic grandeur, which is perfect for The Woman In Black. It is difficult to imagine a more apt location for filming other than Eel Marsh House.
Northamptonshire Shire is becoming more and more prominent as a filming location. Great Expectations from BBC is also filmed in the same region. English County is also nearby from the location, which is convenient for the production crew.
Silver Screen Spookiest Home
Cotterstock Hall is the home shown in The Woman in Black, and it is up for $1.1 million. It is a massive house that was built in the 17th century, and since then, it has always been in the news for some ghostly aristocracy.
Palatial Property
It spans over 4 acres of land, but it is not scary in real life. The building has limestone walls, a traditional Collyweston stone slated roof, and stone mullioned windows.
Even after the restoration, many of the features of the home are still authentic, tracing back to 1956-1958.
Heritage home to Hollywood
The interior of the house is so top-notch and pristine that before the filming of The Woman in Black, the crew had to make some changes by adding cobwebs and ivy to give it a proper horror look.
The cast of the movie, including Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the character of Arthur Kipps, all of them stayed at the place for three days.
Making an Entrance
It is shown as Well Marsh House in the movie. The estate is illustrated as a sinister and dark setting, home to supernatural evil forces.
A luxurious Residence
The house has more than three floors, and the interior is filled with antique and pristine bricks and architecture. It was designed and built by John Norton. After the Civil War, he was a small landowner.
The house has grand red velvet curtains, a massive entrance, a grandfather clock, and a beautiful window seat, which is a far cry from anything we see on the big screen.
A piece of history
The Northamptonshire estate was chosen as a filming location for the movie back in 2012 when the crew was scouting the places for filming.
The drawing room is filled with furnishings and details like wooden floors, a chandelier, and a fireplace.
