The Night of the Grizzly came out back in 1966 but is still remembered by the fans on some occasions. It is a Western film that stars iconic actors such as Clint Walker as well as Martha Hyer and Keenan Wynn. Joseph Pevney has directed this story while the script has been wonderfully penned down by Warren Douglas. This movie came out back on the 20th of April 1966 under the banner of Paramount Pictures. This story marked the final project that Pevney ever worked on. As for the plot, it starts with an introduction to Jim Cole as well as his wife Angela and their children Gypsy and Charlie and niece Meg. They also have friends named Sam Potts with them as they all arrive in a small town located in Wyoming.
We see that Jim has got a ranch from his late uncle and decided that it was time to leave his job as a lawman and instead carry up the profession of a rancher. While they are in town, the group comes across Mr. Benson, who is the banker. He tells them about the mortgage, that is, 675 US dollars on the property. Jim initially did not want the ranch up to his name because it would all take his life saving, but when another rancher named Jed Curry was about to offer to buy the land, he relented. The land initially belonged to Jed’s family, but they lost it to Jim’s uncle in a card game.
Now, as the family is leaving the bank after paying the mortgage, they come across Jed. He acts as if he is happy for the Coles but, deep down, wants to snatch the ranch out of their hands. When the family arrives at the ranch’s cottage, it is in very bad shape. Although, they do not get discouraged by sight. The next morning, Jim starts working on the place starting by building a fence around their land. Benson comes to him and warns him about a grizzly bear named Satan. This animal comes into ranches and kills animals for fun, and destroys livestock. Many have tried to shoot him but have failed at doing so.
Later, when Jim goes to buy some cattle, he finds out that they have all died in the shop itself, which was ultimately the work of Satan. That same night, Satan makes his first appearance. He kills Duncan and badly injures the family dog. The next morning, as the family takes the dog to stitch up and treat, Jim and Meg go to get a coffee. The Curry boys are also present at the store, and they start harassing Jim. A fight emerges but later is stopped when Jed comes in. He teaches them in private that they have to stay clear of Jim if they want his land.
Up next, Jim starts working on his land, and he and Sam see the runaway mule appearing in front of their eyes. It dies before them, and the two vow to hunt down Satan and then kill him. They try to track the animal down but are nearly killed and bleakly escape. When they come back home, half of their cattle are killed by Satan. Jim tries to get another loan from Benson, but he refuses Benson fears the wrath of Jed and his warnings. Hereby, Jed posts a 750 US dollar reward for anyone who can kill the bear. Cass, a bounty hunter, appears with his hunting dogs. Jim realizes that he has put him into jail two years ago on the charge of murder. Cass wants to exact revenge from Jim so that he does not get the money and is ruined financially.
