Operation Christmas Drop is streaming on Netflix and as the name suggests, the movie is a Christmas-themed movie. It is directed by Martin Wood. Kat Graham stars as an uptight Washington aide who falls in love with Alexander Ludwig, an Air Force Soldier.
It is a predictable but classic holiday movie. The movie’s name is a reference to a real-life event, an annual humanitarian tradition that was started in 1952.
Everywhere, the Airforce takes off supplies and essential gifts given by the Guam communities to unreserved communities residing on the small islands of Micronesia. Holidays have the spirit of giving with beautiful locations.
All in all, it is an ideal setup for a beautiful Christmas movie. Ludwig and Graham look beautiful on screen, but the shooting locations consist of sandy beaches and blue water.
But as always, if a character is saying them in Guam, that doesn’t mean they are shooting in Guam. In this article, we will take a Look at the locations where this Netflix romantic comedy was shot.
Where was the Operation Christmas Drop was filmed?
There is no Christmas magic going on here; most of the movie has been shot in Guam at Anderson Air Force Base. It is among very few selected movies that have been filmed here, as per Martin Wood.
In an interview with Stars and Stripes newspapers, Martin said that to build an Air Force for the filming of a movie is nearly impossible; to shoot the movie, we just have to move on to an existing Air Force.
The crew members and the actors were allowed to film on the airbase with aircraft and planes. Wood said there is real footage they shot while filming the movie, looking past the crew, all stuck to a c-130 performing aerial stunts over the ocean. The whole crew used the sick paper bags many times while shooting the scene.
Some of the things were built on the location and added. This was not a documentary. Chamorro Village was built by a Chamorro chief and Guell Rosario, a legendary celestial navigator.
Scene specific locations
The airdrop scenes were filmed on Anderson Air Base. It is the only base in the western Pacific that has B1 and B52 strategic bombers. Guam is built like a huge aircraft carrier surrounded by Manu beaches.
Andrew and Erica visited Chamorro Village, which is situated in Hagatna. The kids, who said Feliz Navidad was a native of Chamorros, were also colonized by the Spanish Crown. The US occupied it after Spain was defeated in 1898.
After the helicopter ride, both of them go to an isolated place, Gun Beach, situated beneath Tumon, the main tourist town of Guam.
The traditional village resembles Talofofo. It is a shame that the movie’s scenes are from old Spanish stones that are present all over the island. The scene of the Christmas Party was shot in Westin Resort, Guam.
The lizard in Erica’s room looked like the trickery of CGI, but it was a reptile. Gold Dust Day gecko is found in Madagascar but is introduced to some Pacific Islands.
