If you are a fan of survival shows, especially the ones that are unscripted and have a more realistic touch, then there is a high chance that you have heard of the reality show, Survivor. The series, Survivor itself is a large franchise that has branched out into a tough competitive show for survival produced by different countries, out of which European Survivor is one.
The show is rightfully called European’s Survivor as contestants on the show get taken to an unknown piece of land and are left alone to figure out a way to survive and fend for themselves and live in peace till the end of the series. They have to find out a way to get their hands on basic necessities for their survival while getting into rough competitions with one another in order to win benefits and immunities, while the one who fails to do so is forced to bid goodbye to the show.
Over the years of its release, many countries have joined the franchise and produced their own versions of the show, all the while sticking to the basic outline of the show. The castaways get taken to a place that almost always looks like the middle of nowhere, and they are divided into teams. At first, the teams work together to win, get benefits, and help each other survive by finding food, building a fire, and finding a place to sleep.
As episodes go by, the teams are forced to eliminate one of their own, and it is through this repeated process that slowly the number of castaways goes down, and the teams turn into individual survival competitions till the last one stands. The last to remain is the winner and is bestowed with the title of sole survivor.
The show is a hit among fans for the kind of adrenaline rush that it creates even through our television screens and because it is always fun to watch people being forced to choose between survival and human emotions and relationships.
Where Is The Langkawi Island?
The reality show, European’s Survivor, is to return to our screens soon, and it was revealed recently that this time the participants would be dragged to the beautiful Langkawi Islands floating smoothly on the Andaman Sea and separated from Malaysia by the Strait of Malacca. The islands are no more than thirty kilometers away from mainland Malaysia and are one of the most beautiful clusters of islands in the country.
The production house revealed that the location of Langkawi was picked for its sheer beauty and natural presence and the fact that it would be perfect for the contestants to set up camp and fetch things for their survival, all the while being safe. The location was also selected because it is perfectly isolated, far off from people, and not big on being a tourist location.
The last season of the show was also filmed at the same location, and the season seemed to have done well. While the location is completely cut off from the public and is moderately difficult to live a comfortable life in, the producers of the show also chose the location because it is relatively easier for them to get a permit to use the location for a few weeks and completely shut it down from the public for filming purposes.
The creators of the show got help mainly from the local workers when it came to building the set for the crew and putting things up. This was, obviously, an employment opportunity for the local people and is overall a great way to promote Malaysian land for increased tourism.
The show’s great success brings much attention to the locations that the show uses, causing increased curiosity among people about the places, thus, boosting Langkawi’s attractions and all that it has to offer. The Langkawi islands of Malaysia would surely become a tourist hotspot not just because of the show but also because of its inherent beauty and peace.
